I just ordered this Dell from the outlet place and turned it on and compared to a Vostro 1000 computer I am borrowing, my screen colors look washed out and bland. I bought this upgrade to edit pictures and it looks awful! It says the colors are 32 bit?? I don't know what that means but it looks terrible. Do you think they did something wrong or I didn't order the right thing or are there some settings I need to adjust??
Thanks for your help !
FYI, here are the specs the machine came with.

That's a 720p screen and they are terrible for photo editing. If you're not happy, you should return it and get a 1080p screen. The colors and picture of the 1080p are vibrant and crisp. The outlet should allow returns just like you would normally ordering through Dell. Sorry you got the 720p screen, it really does not compare to the 1080p. -
There are two screens that come with the XPS 15 (well three, but one is just the stock screen with multi-touch)
There's the 1366x768 (720p, the stock screen) and the 1920x1080 (1080p) B+RGLED display.
There is an extreme quality difference between the two screens, and the resolution difference is also significant.
An XPS 15 with the 1366x768 screen is quite possibly the worst 15.6" computer to buy for photo editing, because the LCD panel Dell uses for the 720p screen is one of the worst 15.6" screens currently available. Most 15.6" 1366x768 screens are already terrible quality, and the 1366x768 resolution is too low for a 15.6" laptop anyway because it makes things onscreen really big.
The 1920x1080 B+RGLED screen is an exceedingly good display, but you have to make sure that you buy an XPS 15 with that screen, because the stock screen is worthless. Also, the higher resolution lets you fit a lot more windows onscreen and work with images of larger dimension.

The 768p screen in the xps 15 isnt any worse than others. the particular screen is also used in asus and packard bell notebooks, and possibly more.
I'm really annoyed by all the bad screens out there, i refuse to recommend anything without a good screen if you aren't on an extremely tight budget.
It isn't even the worst screen. The displays in the asus K53E, HP DM1 and other netbooks are even worse. -

Not to sound bad I hope, but that is why people visit the forums before they make a purchase. People here have the experience to guide you to the right decision. Snoop for 15 seconds and you can't miss the myriad of posts here about the difference in the two screens.
I hope you can get a different screen. -
Wow a Philips 720p screen.
So now we got 5 types of screen on the XPS 15
720p
Philips (Garbage)
AUO (Complete garbage)
LG (Good)
Samsung (Good)
1080p
AUO (Fantastic) -
And LG-Philips showing up in the order list doesn't mean the LCD in it is LG. It almost always says that.
Also, it's worth keeping in mind that none of these screens are good. "Good" is relative. Most if not all 15.6" 1366x768 screens are junk. -
lol How did you manage to order the wrong screen? You can forget about Photoshop on a standard laptop.
Here you go
laptop screens compared
I got the 1080p option and it's better than my desktop monitor, although the size obviously sucks
Just got my Dell XPSL502x and screen looks terrible!
