Hey I just got my XPS M1530. It's great and I have yet to turn it on and stuff, but the cd case, silk cloth, and earbuds are missing so I will call Dell later.

First and foremost, what is recommended that I do, from checking that everything is correct (what stuff?) to transferring files from this desktop.

    Thanks!

alright, clean install im not too sure.

i will definitely do the stress test and i am a gamer so I will be trying CS:S on it later.

What else should I test and how? -

    Fan/Temperature,
    Grainy screen/Bleeding
Keyboard Flex/Bulge (read about this somewhere),
    Nvidia 8600M GT issues,
    Working ports
    General build (screws, hinges, etc.)

I actually have a question (sorry for stealing your thread, but I also just recently got my XPS :D)

My XPS came with home premium, but I have a Ultimate 64 bit full installation of Windows that I bought last year.

Can I reformat my XPS and install it on my laptop? Would it void my warranty or cause my problems? I do have the driver CDs that came with the XPS so I'm assuming that those would work with the new installation?

I just miss having dreamscene like I do on my desktop :D

    yes you can

but the drivers, u need to download x64 drivers from dell's site, or search here for 'm1530 64bit drivers'

and dell support wont give help on ur x64 system, meaning if something goes wrong, its a full reinstallation or revert back using system restore or a cloned partition (i recommend Acronis to clone ur OS Partition)

i woudln't use dreamscenes on a laptop... waste of processing power, requires GPU to work harder(probably burn out the GPU faster, and with the rumors of nvidia 8600 being bad...... sigh)
