    hello

i just received my xps m1330 today, ordered 6/30 with an original estimated ship date of 8/22. i haven't turned it on yet, but i have been inspecting its externals for about 10 minutes, and i have a few questions.

    1) there is a panel on the back and it protrudes out annoyingly. is this normal? i assume this is the panel for RAM.... not exactly sure
    2) does everyone's plastic panels all seamlessly fit together? certain plastic pieces around the keyboard kind of jut out

i have taken pictures of these... along with some other pix. i do also notice a slight curvature in the keyboard up the middle, but i wouldn't have noticed it without reading this forum. overall, the quality is pretty good, i am just scared that my order was rushed since it was one of the first batches. i don't want to be stuck with a lemon!

i have to study and stuff, so i don't think i will be turning it on until tomorrow. i will then check for the cpu whine and whether or not my slot loading drive scratches disks. any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks!

The slot bottom slot cover should sit flush with the system. Yours looks like it's protruding 1mm. The plastic on the top left corner should be aligned as well. I'm a little disappointed with Dell's XPS quality.

Congrats on your new laptop! :)

Can you check your service tag to see if you have a "Chi Mei" display? You can also check:

Device manager > Monitors > Right click generic PnP monitor, properties > Details tab > and under property, click hardware ID.

    Thanks!

Actually, I couldn't help but turn it on. I'm actually posting with the m1330 right now, lol. My display says LCD2306, is that Chi Mei? Mine is an LED (fyi) i'm not exactly sure if i can tell the difference though, haha. how can i check for dead pixels?

also, about the plastic not coming together seamlessly next to the keyboard, with a slight nudge i was able to correct it pretty much. I will have to try fixing the panel undearneath tomorrow. So far though, this laptop has been okay. The slot loading drive is noisier than i expected (and higher pitched too) but it's not that bad. it hasn't scratched my cd's either. I'm also not too sure about the whine thing. Is it supposed to be very audible? All I hear right now is the fan.

Thanks for the information on your LED! :)

You can check for dead pixels with this program: DPT

I hear that you can just unscrew and reattach the bottom pannel and it will sit correctly.

it just seems they rushed screwing it in and it stickes out a bit, EASY FIX though.

btw does the black m1330 come with plastic lid or metal ally? it seems very prone to smudges :)

As another has said, just unscrew that piece and try to re-seat it. Screw it back in.

If that doesn't work, I would call Dell and have it fixed immediately. That would drive me nuts.
