I just turned it on and it doesn't look as bright as others were saying, how do I check the screen manufacturer and can I change brightness settings to the LED display somehow? Or is it on LED and I'm just taking it for granted?

Go to Device Manager -> Under Monitor, double click on Generic PnP monitor -> Click on "Details" Tab -> Choose "Hardware ID" from the Drop down menu

It should say some like Monitor/CMO1555

And your only light source is LED so what you see... is what you got.

When you turn it on when it isn't plugged in, it will naturally go to a dimmer setting to conserve energy. So either plug it in, or press Fn + Up arrow to increase the brightness.

Im sure Dell didn't send you the wrong screen.

Go to your Device Manager and look up the hardware id of the Generic PnP Monitor, if it has CMO in it, you've got the LED. If not... wow, Dell sure screwed up.

If it does have CMO in it and you have it on max brightness (You can adjust to max brightness by pressing FN + Arrow Up until it doesnt get bright anymore) and you think its not as bright... wow, either your screen is defective (which is very very rare) or... you've never used a laptop with a CCFL screen.

Ever since getting a laptop with an LED display, all other Dell laptops, thinkpads, etc that I've seen feel like they are very dim. Compared with the LED, they are stepds down from it.

What about the other aspects of your notebook? Is the optical drive, keyboard, and everything else ok?
