I bought a WWAN card for my XPS 1530 and installed it today.

While doing a bit of googling I came across a modification to the registry that allows you to enable a GPS feature on the WWAN card, so I tried it. A quick reboot later and my XPS 1530 has GPS enabled.

I've not been outside to try this as of yet, so I was wondering if anyone else has done this or has any experience of it?

I will be thankful to U if U will write down the modification to the registry (or post the link) that allows you to enable a GPS feature on the WWAN card, cause I am planning to buy WWAN in a future.

    Thanks

    Certainly.

First of all install the software and run it. You'll notice there's no GPS button.

    Close the software.

Load REGEDIT, use the SEARCH feature and type GPSHWStatus.

Once REGEDIT finds GPSHWStatus, change the value from 0 to 1.

    Close REGEDIT.

Open the software, there'll be no GPS button for a second or so, but then it will load the GPS drivers and it will appear. If it doesn't do this within a second or two, close the software and reopen it. The button will appear and you now have GPS activated on your laptop.

I have tested this with the XPS 1530 and the 5520 WWAN card.

I am currently using TMobile mobile broadband, but the GPS appears to be genuine GPS and not AGPS or any other form that depends on the network.

If you're installing the card yourself and not using Vodafone then make sure you download the generic software from Dell - http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=20&fileid=213879

some WWAN cards have GPS locators in them... some WWAN applications actually allow you enable GPS... i guess they tried to hide/not broadcast this feature.....
