I was in the market for a new laptop to replace my wife's 15inch Toshiba notebook that we bought last year for 480$. Everything was great until the USB ports broke (and I tried everything, drivers/windows reinstall).
Anyways, I have been doing a lot of homework on getting a new budget laptop. Another goal was to get one smaller. I decided to go the Dell outlet route and assumed that all of the M1330's had LED screens after reading some quick reviews. I placed my order but then realized that it in fact doesn't. Now i'm debating weather or not to cancel my order, I just placed it an hour ago and it probably won't get shipped out till friday. Here is what I got.

Now I realize that the inventory flys on the outlet but the reason I got this one was because of the 45nm CPU and I felt like it was a new model and that the 8400m GPU problem would be fixed. Should I cancel and try to get something with similar specs that has a LED screen? I'm also having doubts about getting the Nvidia GPU. I intentionally looked for one with it in case I wanted to do some light gaming but I don't want another problem of a notebook failing like the toshiba i'm replacing. Also, how difficult is it to find a good sub 750$ XPS(W/o tax and coupon) with an LED screen and good stats? I don't know if they significantly raise the price on the LED versions because of high demand. I just want to make sure that I did the best I could for the money. Let me know what is the best route to go. Thanks!

If you're staying in that price range then you're likely going to be downgrading one part to upgrade the screen.
I've seen some M1330s with LED screens for around that price but they didn't have that good of a CPU. I saw a scratch and dent model that had pretty good specs with LED screen but only T7500 CPU i think.
You got a good deal but it's up to you how important LED is. If you're not going to be happy then by all means cancel the order. It's all personal preference. In the future, it's probably best to look over all the specs before purchasing. -
You're not going to have a fixed GPU on an outlet 8400... no one wants to believe that they will get a faulty GPU then they act upset and HOW CAN DELL NOT HAVE FIXED THIS when they get one..

is the 8400m problem over exagerated or should I really just cancel my order before it proccesses.
Agh, I thought I did enough research, spent hours and hours -
It's not exaggerated. I can safely say 80% of M1330's manufactured before August 2008 will die before the owner is ready for it to. I've personally witnessed two dead 8400's in this laptop, and if you read the topic about the M1330 in my sig (the re-write) you'll see lots of people with the issue.
Get an IdeaPad U330. Good alternative with newer technology and a non faulty GPU. -
I'm using a refurb. that I received two weeks ago to type this post. I paid 1,200 for it (t9500,8400GS,vista ultimate,4GB's ram,LED screen). I have had the dvd drive replaced already. The top cover logo broke off and they replaced the top cover for me. The tech forgot to remove the camera from the old cover so, he had to come back and dismantle the laptop again. I called Dell and complained about my new laptop being completely taken apart three times within a two week span and I threatened to return it. I had to talk to five people but in the end, they agreed to build me a new(non-refurb) and it should arrive next week. I just hope I don't encounter any GPU issues later on. I think for the money you got a pretty good deal.
Just ordered a XPS M1330 Refurb, w/o LED Screen cancel my order?
