First off, what a great forum! Some of you guys amaze me with your computing knowledge. I have much to learn.
    :D
I Just ordered the M1730, as all of you have been there, the wait is killing me.

imo should have at LEAST went with the 8800's. the dell outlet has had similar systems with the 8800's for less than you paid but they are technically not brand new.

First off, congratulations on your purchase. Too bad it's not the dual 8800M GTX SLi, but still great for gaming.

    1. Not so sure about accuracy of dates. Could be delayed a day or two due if there are problems with the laptop before shipping. Could also be shipped earlier than that if all is well. Although it is quite a long wait.

I'm pretty sure you can get the 8800MGTX SLI's at this point for that price.

I don't think you should go through with this purchase. If you can't get the 8800MGTX SLI's look at alienware's new M17. You can get the ATI 3870's in Crossfire which is comparable to the 8800MGTX SLI. for this kind of money i highly recommend NOT purchasing the M1730 with 8700s.

Yea, if you can cancel, cancel it ASAP.
Either look in the Dell Outlet for configs with 8800M GTX SLI or get the OCZ Whitebook...

    Thanks for the info guys.

I was unaware the 8700 was a bad card. I couldnt swing the extra grand for a graphics card.

I really only play games like red alert 3 and sup commander.
    nothing like crysis.
I would prefer to purchase new, I really like having the 4 year warr.

Please keep the good info coming!! All opinions are welcome.

this system wont last 4 years, even if u only play RTS games. 8700 are a just bad :) There is no other words to phrase it. Cancel that order and take a look at our sager forums. M1730 is a good choice but only with 8800 and its getting old now. There are far more advanced laptops out there. For $2500 u can get a sager with WUXGA, 4Gb, 320Gb 7200, M GTX, and a T9600 for an extra $200 u could swing for a quad core or X9100.

I also wish I had mine built with the 8800 but running Cysis and Fallout 3 without any problems with my BAD 8700's... :) (a few driver tweeks done)

Though the M17 is one sweet looking ride imo!

That est. delivery date is a roll of the dice, mine came a week an a half early...ENJOY your new machine! :D

Your not getting the best bang for the buck, if you can cancel that order, I would do so. You can get a better gaming notebook for the price you paid or even lower, plus the M1730 is still not even Centrino 2, what is going on Dell, why are you so behind and yet still charging so much?

Plus the seller agreed to express shipping!

Who should I get my aftermarket warrenty with? dell or square trade?

Please hold off from buying, if you are ok from buying from the internet I strongly suggest you invest in This instead. Xoticpc is a very well known, and respected company around here. There is also the Alienware version that has been mentioned ealier, that laptop has a lower base price but the options quickly escalate the price.

Who did the refurb on your 1730 ? I assumed Outlet Dell's were only sold via Outlet. 2.7k is a bit lower than what you can get for the same specs on Outlet.
