I noticed that the left hidge had a noticeable gap the right side is fine but the left is off. Is this normal? I mean I paid close to $1800.... for that kind of money I dont want something with regards to Quality, to be that noticeable.
Should I call Dell and get this replaced. I will not accept a replacement screen or anthing like that. I have had 3 Asus notebook prior to this one and have never had an issue like this.
thanks in advance.

Woah $1800? What specs
Anyways, the left hinge is supposed to be like that. DELL said it makes removing the keyboard easier. -
If you won't accept a replacement screen don't return it because you will most likely be getting a refurb.
-
Really?..like that?......thats pretty weak.
that doesnt make me happy this is my 2nd Dell I have 3 Asus, and I consider that poor build Quality. I mean well whatever I see how much of an eye sore it is then make a decision.
as far spec
T8300
250 GIG 7200 free fall
bluetooth
8400m gs
LED Screen
3yr warr
lojack
and a bunch of other stuff office etc. -
I would just send back for refund. I just got it today. -
-
He's talking about a M1330, not M1530.
I think the 3 year warranty and office stuff banged the price up. -
IMHO, it's a manufacturing tolerance error. That whole "command module / speaker grill cover" plastic panel was simply off in one direction by 1mm. 1mm is all it takes to make it look bad... *sighs*.
If that's all you found, congratulations - I have pictorially outlined my M1330's defects... *sighs a little louder*. -
Yeah but the M1330 should be about the same price as the M1530, even with the 3 year it shouldn't cost $1800..
-
I'm not suggesting he couldn't have managed a better price but you cannot compare the two as they are in two different Notebook classes.
If it makes the OP feel any better, I paid about €1,580 for mine* last November and considering the € was about 1,45USD back then, that translates to $2,300...
*See sig for specs: price excludes the 2nd (6-cell) battery.
EDIT: Note that the OP mentioned "Bunch of Office stuff" which I take means Windows Office 2007 - Home + Student Edition. I got the same and it cost me an extra €170 ($250), which is not included in the above price tag (meaning I paid €1750 / $2540 in total).Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Yeah I got the office 2007 standard that was like 279.00 or something plus that was with tax and shipping all together.
3year extended and the lojack. 4 gig of memory which i didnt mention the price was right I dont feel I overpaid I just feel for that kind of dough it should be perfect and the left hidge is an eye sore.
some people dont mind a scratch on there car paint I do thats all Iam saying as far as Dell saying is O.K I feel thats pretty poor on their part. -
-
So I take it that most memebers are O.K with the flaw on the hidge?
Did anyone ask about compensation or return it for this reason? -
Honestly, this is your mistake. I think your not only being a bit too critical, but you should have went to a Staples or Best Buy to see the notebook in person, especially if you're that picky about aesthetics and such.
-
My mistake get a clue man it not like I have Dell kiosk or best buy locally.
This is a flaw in design yeah I missed it with regards to my purchase however I didnt hear this mentioned till after the fact.
So if your OK with the notebook that way thats fine to each his own. For a notebook thats been out this long now, you shouldnt be ok with it that way, beside this is suppose to be there premium product.
I called they will replace it if I get another one the same I'll just get a refund for me its not acceptable.
thanks for all the response's
peace Dio -
Again, if that's really the only problem you have with your M1330 then I would say you did well and you should be happy with it.
Although many have managed to get compensated for lengthy delivery delays or major problems like the wrong part or defective components etc., I really doubt you'll manage to get compensated for a plastic piece that's 1mm off-center...
But if you've got time on your hands, give them a call... you never know
As for Onionring's comment, someone in this forum recently noted that the "samples" they saw at Best Buy didn't have such a gap (but the one they ended up receiving did) so Onionring's way off saying that.
Not to mention the fact that there are no "Best buys" (or other outlets) to review Dell gear in every Country where Dells are available. I certainly didn't have the opportunity to look at one before I pulled out my Credit card... -

I'm pretty pissed myself. My gap is awful, not just the size of it, but the fact that I can see the wires down inside easily, and they aren't even fully painted, they are half black and then fade into white, so they are even more noticeable.
Also, I'm having my keyboard replaced, there are several keys that are three times as freaking loud as the others when I type, and half stick when they are pressed in (no spills whatsoever on this thing), and considering I'm writing several reports a week on this thing it is bothering the HELL out of me.
CPU whine = what the heck. XPS tech said it's from EMI, electro-magnetic interference....ok, so then why the hell does it still whine when I'm out in the middle of a grass field? (college campus area) Way to go on that one genius. I can fix it SLIGHTLY by disabling pop-up/down mode using a program I have, but there is still a CLICKing noise coming from the same exact area at ALL TIMES. Especially bothersome when in a quiet room. And yes it's still there when I mute everything.
One last thing here, the tech told me to take out the RAM modules to check what version of mobo I have, why would you tell a consumer who has NEVER replaced RAM on this thing in his life to do it himself/herself over the phone? I was ticked to say the least, because of course I couldn't get the cover back on that goes over the RAM modules, it was as if the cover had become warped while it was off and was slightly bigger than the area it was supposed to cover, I felt like I was breaking it getting it back on, but nothing did break and it's fine now. Wasn't easy though.
/rant. Sorry for complaining. Spent $2k on this thing, would like the same quality value.
Just received my M1330 but....
