Just received my M1330, but noticed dents/bulges around trackpad?

Purolator dropped off my M1330 this morning, but I noticed when I opened it that there are indentations above and below the left-hand side of trackpad. When I run my fingers across these areas, I can feel the dip in the aluminum and a bulge where it rises again. It's not too noticeable when you look at it straight from above, but you can definitely see the dents when viewing the laptop from an angle due to lighting. Is this normal? I never noticed this with any other laptops that I've used. If it isn't, should I bother contacting Dell? Thanks in advance for your advice! :)

If it's not significantly noticeable, I wouldn't bother to replace it. Mine does that a little bit too.

If you paid a premium price for a laptop, you should receive a premium-priced laptop.

That being said, ask for a new one.

I had the same problem and had Dell come out and replace the palm rest , only to find out that the screws behind the dented area were too tight. Take a screwdriver to the screw on the bottom side of the lap top closest to the dent and back it off just a bit. My dent dissappeared.
    Hope thats all it is.

Yeah loosening the screws around that area underneath does the trick.

Thanks for the input, guys. I loosened both screws and the bottom dent was fixed, however the top one remained. I decided to tighten them up again, though, because I noticed that one of the screws dropped out after I loosened it enough to remove the dent. I guess I'll just have to live with the depressions (unless a new palm rest will fix the problem entirely?). :(

And no, I didn't receive any accessories. :(

    Definitely get a new one.

Seems a lot of people have been seeing a variety of defects here on the XPS m1330/1530. And they participated in the forums before receiving the notebook, including me.

Leads me to believe that Dell is rushing this process and doesn't have the kind of quality control you'd expect from anyone dealing with a premium item.

Edit: At least demand the accessories or a gift card to compensate for the dented problem.

    Hey,

Return and get a new one.....Are you really going to be happy with it being that way?? It would bug me, and I would start to get *feisty* over that defect ~ and looking at it each day..... :)

    Cin ;) :)

    Here are some pics. :)

    The original trackpad dent:

Found a new thing at the back of the laptop:

And a dent on the cover:

These things are minor, but if they're not the norm, then I think I'm justified in being a bit critical. Will Dell really send me a new laptop as a replacement? I've heard of people getting refurbished models, so how do I know if they'll send me a new one? Also, the thought of waiting another couple of weeks for the replacement doesn't make me too happy either. :(

And thanks for all your responses, by the way. The crowd here at NBR has been really helpful. :)

Not sure if Dell has changed their policies but with my last exchange with them (a couple of years ago), they ship you out the laptop then you ship the deffective one back to them using the box the replacement came on. So, you will not be without a laptop that whole time. Good luck, definitely try to get a replacement.
