Keys skip when typing on my m1530, do I have to send it in for repair or is there a way to fix this?

I will type then all of a sudden the cursor will jump three or lines down or back. It happens often though.

did you spill liquid on it?

i accidentally splilled water on mine... the keys skip or 'pretend' to be pressed.... went on dell chat (i have accidental damage, so this is covered), they wanted me to send to depot (10 day turnaround) to replace and check for other damage, but i'm sure only the keyboard's damaged, asked them to send me the part and i'll fix myself...

if you don't have acc damage, and sure you did not splill water, you can try to have this covered under normal warranty... or go to ebay and get a keyboard for <$30

Do you have anything that could have been lodged underneath the keyboard?

You may want to use an air compressor, turn it sideways (and shake gently)..to see if anything is lodge underneath...and *stuck* per se.

If you have OnSite Warranty, you can call Dell ~ and they will prolly disptach a technician to come, replace & repair. Or, they may send you a new keyboard to replace yourself.

If it's something that was caused by an Accident, and you have Complete Care..then you will prolly get a replacement! ;)

I have the 1530, and I have seen a few keys get *hard to press*, but I was able to fix the situation!

    Hope that helps!

    Cin ;) :)

Nothing spilled on it since I got it, it's a refurb and I'll call Dell to have them change the keyboard.

    Good luck!

Check your startup items... If you have Dell MediaDirect installed (v3.5 I believe) you can disable PCMService in your Startup Items. This should fix the issue (provided its not actually a hardware problem).

Yea, I changed the keyboard and the problem is still there. Dell Mediadirect isn't installed but I want to install it.

I'm actually trying to play a blueray movie for the first time right now, it's been 20 minutes now and it's still loading ?

Its probably the inside pad of your hand grazing over the touch pad... Ive had to deal with many of clients having this issue. I told them to be more aware of where their hands are when typing... Bam problem was solved...

My keyboard also skips single keys at times, but it's limited to when I'm using IE7 and typing in search and account boxes. I'm guessing it's probably a lag problem with IE7, or delay with certain sites still loading while I'm off typing my info in the boxes. I haven't found a fix, but this seems to happen less when using Firefox or Chrome.

They could also just use a mouse and disable the touchpad to make things easier. I know what you mean though. It's happened to me when playing games as well, and I just disable the touchpad for those situations. Come to think about it, the sensitivity of the XPS touchpad is probably why Dell made them quite small relative to the size of the notebook. Other 15 inch notebooks have way bigger touchpads than the XPS 1530.
