Hi, I'm buying one with UK layout keyboard and planning to replace it with US version keyboard but unsure if its the straight swap, anyone could help me confirm this?

    Straight swap.

Just be sure to set your region and keyboard in Windows, so that it knows which keyboard layout you are using

This is crazy. How did I miss this? :(

The laptop has specific keyboard layout. dang. Now I'm stuck with UK layout (Was expecting the keyboard to be the same as my XPS 15 L502x - no grills)

EDIT: Anyone know if I can replace the grills (keyboard area) and not the entire piece in this photo?

    1) You can order the correct part from Dell
    2) You can use wire snips (and sandpaper) to make the alterations yourself
    3) You can simply replace the keycaps on your current keyboard, with the closest equivalent from the UK keyboard. Then, go into Windows settings to change your input language to English (UK).

I'm not sure if my post is confusing and if so, apologies.

The laptop I bought has UK keyboard layout and I want to replace it with US keyboard one.

UK keyboard has big Enter key, by the way

That seems right - the UK keyboard appears to have a larger enter key which would prevent a direct swap. Odd - I haven't seen that before.

The @ key and the quotation marks key swap as do a few other bits but there doesn't seem a huge difference otherwise.

If you want to swap the pounds sign for dollar (Or remap any of the keys) take a look at the Sharpkeys app. There's a write-up and guide here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/map-any-key-to-any-key-on-windows-xp-vista.
