Has anyone else experienced the following issue?

When playing games, your fps rate drops 90%_when you disconnect the AC power supply and continue playing on battery!

Or, your 1730 screen flashes like the laptop can't display *DVD* video properly - yet it plays video fine using the AC power supply!

Banctec has been to my home 3 times__ and has replaced everything in my 1730, and yet the problem remains! They have replaced the motherboard, the 8700gpu, the battery and LCD screen.

During the third service call, the Banctec tech talked to xps Tech Support for an hour, and was advised Dell is aware of this issue__and get this__ there is no apparent inhome service fix__for (as Dell puts it) the "few 1730s affected." The defective 1730s must be returned to Dell "for further evaluation."

The issue has been discussed on the Dell support forum. see linky below.

Is the issue being caused by the video card being throttled back to conserve battery power? And if so, why does it affect only a few 1730s?

Ha! This thread reads like your shocked that a battery can't feed the same amount of power as a 230Watt mains line!

I've the M1730, as in my sig and I'd never bother with gaming off the mains line. One reason would be the game would only last about 20mins. I don't think there's a battery that could really support gaming to "normal" laptop battery time in the M1730. Unless you can adapt one or two of these.

on Vista 64 if I am doing a 3D game and unplug the power I get a BSOD with the nvidia driver - I've learned not to do that. I dont think you can expect to game with battery.
