Is there a DIY way to add some sort of heat shield underneath the left palmrest right above the harddrive? My palmrest gets too hot and cpuid shows about 58c for the HD temp. Will I benefit from something like this? Can I just use aluminum foil?

I fold and damp a sheet of paper towel and put it on the palm rest, works really good.

I would suggest you either repaste the CPU/GPU for better heat transfer out of the laptop, or get a SSD which gives off less heat than a HDD. (or both)

The aluminium won't do anything as it can only heat-shield so much, and the heat needs to escape some how.
