The screen on my L501x was very grainy so I called up dell and they had a technician come in and replace the screen, the new screen seems just as grainy. Could this somehow be a graphics card problem? Anyone else experiencing issues with their L501x?

A grainy screen is the sign of a poor quality screen, not a GPU problem. I'm assuming you got the 768p screen?? If so, there's nothing you can do about it, except upgrade the screen yourself. Grainy isn't broken, so there's nothing technically wrong with it, and replacing it with another screen of the same model won't do you any good. I had bought a Lenovo Y560 about 6 months ago and it was the same way, I had to return it because I couldn't deal with the graininess.

Graininess is just a property of most 1366x768 screens on screen sizes that high. I've been looking at a lot of HP dv6tse's lately and while I like the laptops, the screens are horribly grainy. That's just how they are.
Interestingly enough, the Inspiron 15 (a very cheap budget laptop) seems to have a much brighter and less-grainy screen than the HPs. I've still yet to see an XPS 15 with a 768p screen and judge it against the HP and the Inspiron, but hopefully I'll get to soon... -
Initially I ordered the L501x with the 720p because I didn't think 1080p was necessary but once I received it, I immediately regretted getting it. Contrast, viewing angels, and color gamut were horrible. The graininess made me thought I had vision problems. I sent it back in exchange for the B+RGLED 1080p and the difference was beyond night and day.
