hey guys and gals but mostly guys![]()
I wonder when your fan kicks in with your L502X when surfing.
With me its no noise for a minute or so and then it suddenly kicks in with too much speed to my feeling.
When does your fan kick in when surfing the web normally (no youtube etc.)
would be interesting to know..

Mine kicks in at extremely high/noisy speed even when the laptop hasn't been touched for 6-7 hrs overnight. Annoying as F.

I can see how this could be really annoying! I wonder if there is any way to regulate it. Maybe even make it spin on low speeds constantly instead of kicking everytime..

I had read some of these complaints before and this was my only reservation. Just got my XPS15, and the fan starting doing the intermittent <5 seconds kick in at VERY high volume during the initial Windows startup! Not impressed at all.
As it sits there idling, before i've even connected to my network, with nothing open, the fan is cycling on and off. I'm sure the 95 out of box process running don't help. I've never heard another computer make fan noise half this volume.
I will try the BIOS updates, failing that will be calling Dell Support and if this can't be addressed returning it.

update:
- Looks like I'm already on A04 :-(
- I read some comments elsewhere suspecting Optimus. I tried setting nVidia Control panel to use iGPU always, and it made no difference. Pretty bummed, I do a lot of work while listening to classical or other music at low volume or with quiet parts which can't compete with a redlining fan. -
Hold on to your dell. you have an i7 in there don't expect it to shut up like an i3 would. I think we'll find some tweaks to fix it up. After all, the XPS has an excellent cooling system in place. I already purchased a fan table for underneath it and it helps a lot
