    Hi All,

I've just upgraded my L502x i7 to Windows 10. Its been a great upgrade, except that since upgrading, the fan now runs constantly.

the L502Xs have always had fan issues (on/off/on/off etc) but now my fan just runs constantly.

Has anyone experienced similar, and found a fix that works for them??

    Thanks!

Worked half of it out... it's the gt540m driver from Nvidia.

When I installed the 8.1 driver for Windows 8.1 the fan stopped (and went back to the usual, but less frequent on/off/on/off/on/off cadence).

However, with the win8.1 drivers for gt540m from dell website it also means that certain software won't open and crashes immediately on startup - something to do with d3d9.dll file - so I had to re-install the nvidia gt540m drivers through device manager (so fan now running full time again!)

Any thoughts on compatibility of Win 8.1 driver with Windows 10 would be welcome.

    Thanks!

I was looking for just this: I have the same laptop, fan runs constantly with win10. It actually wasn't the only computer to do this: My dad's StudioXPS 8100 PC now also makes fannoise as if I was gaming, and my wife's Dell Inspiron 1500R did the same thing. Went back to Windows 7 with that one, and then the fan noise was normal again.

If I do "powercfg /energy" on my laptop to get an analysis of the energy use, one of the entries was:

CPU Utilization :processor utilization is high
The average processor utilization during the trace was high. The system will consume less power when the average processor utilization is very low. Review processor utilization for individual processes to determine which applications and services contribute the most to total processor utilization.
    Average Utilization (%) 14.58

But I had taskmanager open during this scan, and it never registered anything above 2%, and mostly 1%.

I hope the anniversary update will make things a little better, but I doubt it actually..
