    Never used GPU-Z. So I've no idea about that. Since 2 of 3 (nvidia inspector and hwmonitor) are now showing 0.9V. Its definitely 0.9V. :)

    For me it seems that GPU-Z have built-in table with voltage for card models - on my notebook gives wrong voltage too...

    I know this is not the topic for this but I urgently need a help and I would greatly appreciate it.

    I wish to upgrade the screen of my Dell xps l502x and I have no clue what to do and what screen to buy.

    I want to buy the best screen this laptop can use and if it has touch it would be greatly appreciated.

    Any help will do

    Thanks a lot

    You only have two options. 1366x768 resolution display or 1920x1080 resolution display. I won't go into technicality. Since you're looking for the best. Go with 1080p, blindly. And nope, you can't opt for touch display on this laptop.

    Thanks for your reply. Currently I have 1366x768 with touch. So if I go for 1920x1080 full hd, I will loose my touch function and there is no touch enabled 1920x1080 Full HD screen? Is that what you mean?

    Where can I get a compatible screen from? Before I buy a screen should I take note of any serial number or something like that?

    Thanks again. :thumbsup:

    You won't loose your touch function since its NOT there. This laptop DOESN'T support touch display, so you can't upgrade to one. Call Dell customer care regarding 1080p display upgrade.

    I meant nvidia inspector and GPU-Z still both say 0.95v even after refreshing.

    well guys, since our L502x isn't really the newest one on market (even with highest possible OC new games suck on 1080p with medium graphic) I've decided to look for a new laptop. I´m currently with i7-2630 / GT540M / 8GB RAM version, bought for 800€ at dell.de-store
    But I´m not really sure if around 800€ for a new Laptop with more up2date technics will have a great impact on performance.. What do you think?

    I apologise in advance for my eventually very bad english, but I'm German.. ;) greetz striker_lt

    I guess you can. The new Dell Inspiron series packs better GPU than our laptops now and they aren't that costly.

    Guys I've got a question. Can we turn on our laptop with a combination of keys? Yesterday I went to the interview and I saw a guy there turning on his Lenovo laptop with Backspace key + Power. It's great from security point of view. No one can turn your laptop on except you. Is it possible with our laptop?

    @Skareem2

    you can try check if it works at least as a secondary hdd, probably will work at least as a non bootable unit.

    and if you want to make it works as a bootable unit, you can try boot something else first like a loader and boot it from there then.

    I also noticed many pcie/sata options at the modded bios, you can play it a little with those options, if the laptop starts having issues after enable some of those options, go to the bios and restore setup defaults and then try again with other options.

    @Mang0

    thx for the info :)

    did you already installed them?

    do it brings any improvement for previous 3dapps/games? or just better support for newer games?

    Update !!
    Some hash cracking software (with GPU) require Drivers 310 and higher. . .
    So it's not completely useless ;)

    @ capitankasar
    I flashed GT540m A10 0.83/0.85 and GT540m A12 0.85/0.92 both fail ...
    The first one can't tolerate any 3D load and hard resets the laptop immidiately
    The second crashes the driver like always, all windows hang and the crazy sound continues ...

    And the GPU temps won't go any higher than 65-67. Still having crashes here :/
    Any suggestion ?

    Thank you in advance

    thx for the info

    mmm, try GT540m A12 0.83/0.85 v5

    if it still crashing with a 540m, the only fix should be uncerCLOCK the GPU a little

    Sound? Freeze and loud sound can be from RAM too...
    New drivers are always good - actually they optimize our cards to new games a little.

    Hi Capitan Kasar,
    Thank you very much for your modded BIOS first of all.
    I'm using GT540M, hence have just flashed A12-gt540m-0.83,0.85-advanced version of yours. The flashing turned out to be successful, however, when I checked GPU-Z and nVidia Inspector for the voltage, both showed 1.00V in 3D profile and 0.83V in 2D profile, which are just the original voltages.
    Do you know if sth. might went wrong?
    Thanks in advance!

    Found the problem. Well, it's actually not a problem...

    I've tested Furmark Burn-in with the new BIOS: A12-GT540M-0.83,0.85-Advanced Version, seems that the voltage jumps to 0.85V automatically when in loading (3D profile), while resumes 1.00V when in a sort of 'static' state. This is why I saw 1.00V in 3D profile before.

    The improvement is obvious in my case. Before modification, the GPU temp could easily go up to 90 deg Celsius in 5 min in the burn-in test! But for my 15 min burn-in test just now, it sustains at 76 deg, which is quite amazing!

    Hi,

    As have many of you, I have also been experiencing these crashes on my XPS L502X, where the entire computer freezes and a loud buzzing sound is emitted. Thankfully I found this topic about modding the BIOS so it is under volted, potentially fixing this crash on the L502X. I plan to install it on my own laptop, but first I have some questions, just so I known what I am getting into. If someone wouldn't mind answering them, that would be great.
    Firstly, I am running the Dell A12 BIOS, should I install the Dell A11 BIOS then proceed with installing the recommend A11 540m 0.83v and 0.85 modded BIOS?
    Secondly, if I ever wanted uninstall the modded BIOS, do I just flash the Dell BIOS again? Or do I need to do something else first?
    Thirdly, if I run demanding 3D games (like Skyrim, Deus Ex, Battle Field 3) is there a chance that my computer will crash because it is not receiving enough power to the graphics card?

    Thanks in advance for your help!

    @alvester

    thx for helping others at this topic ^^

    I have now less time for modding/posting, so I apreciate your help :)

    @victorluan

    thanks for the info :)
    I added you to the first post :)
    glad it works fine for you ^^

    @Jacob123223

    you can jump directly to the modded A12 BIOS 0.83/085 v5 gt540m

    it is the one working better, and user's favorite I think.

    you can return to dell's stock bios any moment by running the flash_original_bios.bat file

    I attach the original bios allways plus the modded one in the package, so users can allways rollback to the same version of the bios and compare results modded/unmodded :)

    and that voltage is ok for the card, many users run the card on that voltage, it run cooler and it usually also fix the crashes for many users , give it a try and let us to know how it works for u ;)

    I'm so pissed off right now. I'm raging so hard. For no reason whatsoever my Windows 8 has started stuttering and lagging. The lag is minor but it happens so frequently, it has started to drive me crazy. I've tried everything from resetting my BIOS, flashing it to the stock one, uninstalling and re-installing drivers........everything. I've thoroughly checked my Startup, Services, Event Viewer and Resource Monitor but couldn't find the problem. I also ran sfc scan and found that my CBS.log was corrupted. I fixed it by refreshing my Entire Windows 8 (All of my programs were uninstalled including drivers, it was like a fresh install of Windows 8) and still the problem occurs. I don't know what to do now. I feel like throwing my laptop into a dumpster.

    Well I did that too. If it had bad sectors, then the issue would have been entirely different like system hang or BSOD. Its definitely not BIOS, CPU, RAM or GPU issue. I'm literally lost at the moment. Reinstalling windows is the last thing I wanna do because its a very tedious job but since refreshing Windows didn't work, I doubt re-installing would resolve the issue.

    It's best to check in MHDD (you must change your SATA in BIOS to ATA) booted from USB/CD. But program is very powerful - don't try to make bad sector! (it has that function :p)

    ^^Is that still a problem?

    And does the stuttering only occur after logging in? Does it happen in safe mode?

    Check your Intel chipset and Management Interface drivers. I got BSODs by installing them in the wrong order on Win8 - can't remember exactly what though, but I think chipset should be installed before anything else.

    You could also try booting a Linux partiton to confirm that it is not hardware related.

    EDIT: If it is a bug, it looks like an OS reinstall is your final and best option :/ Just spare a thought for when my SSD with Win8 died and I lost all my C:\ data. (But I was able to recover it with some persistence... somehow :p)

    Cheers

    Nope. sfc scan din't show any file violations after refreshing windows 8.

    Yes stuttering occurs all the time and that too frequently. I managed to run MHDD from Hiren's Boot CD. It took 2 hrs and showed 3 warnings. Don't know if it fixed them or not.

    mmm, then sadly, the only way may be to replace the hdd.

    you can get another hdd or replace it with a SSD,and when you installed the OS at the new unit, I suggest you to connect the old/broken hdd via a sata-usb adapter and try to copy your important data from there.

    reinstall without format?
    well, you can try, but the issues may come back easly.

    you can also try reinstall windows with format, in that case is recomendable to make the complete format instead the fast one, the complete format take longer, but in some damaged disks I have, it allowed to skip the damaged sectors and use just the OK ones.

    If I format 750 GB hard disk. How long will it take? Easily more than an hour I guess?
