    Just flashed the above. Working fine so far. Did notice that a bunch of USB entries were disabled in the advanced menu, and I had to enable them to get my keyboard to work in GRUB.

    Is it possible to go below 0.83v on the 525M for the 2D profile?

    if you have naother laptop, then you must mod your BIOS, because if you flash another laptop bios, your laptop will not turn on anymore ^^

    [Unlocked] Acer Aspire 5750G

    as for the bios voltages, it needs to be edited manually, there are no software control as far I know, it need to be hardedited in bios while modding it

    yep, there arent, you need to mod the video bios file and set the voltage manually, like we do with the L502X

    the video bios file is 64 kb

    mmm, it is a little tricky and difficult, I can tell u how, but I think it may be faster that u provide me the bios version u want to mod (original or already unlocked one) and then you tell me the voltages for 2D and 3D and I can try mod it.

    ok, need a last thing, your BIOS have several VBIOS inside

    I need you tell me what video bios version are you using

    I found 4 video bios versions inside your BIOS

    70.08.6C.00.03
    70.08.3C.00.22
    70.08.3C.00.19
    70.08.72.00.A8

    to know what video BIOS are you using, you need software like GPU-Z

    [IMG]

    if you can post a screen shot like this from GPU-z I will proably able to mod your BIOS ;)

    mmm, not sure.

    try to check the modded bios settings, since you told me it already had unlocked menus, maybe there is something there.

    check the acer control panel if there is any software installed and give also a try to the windows power plan.
    also at the nvidia control panel set the card at max performance setting.

    also if you want cooler temps, you can try hardware mods, well, your laptop is probably different from the ones of this topic, but you can try take it appart and repaste the GPU and CPU, also look for dust filters or any other kind of thing blocking or limiting the airflow and remove it.

    that plus the lowered voltages made my L502X machine run awesome fast plus super cooler temps. :)

    I still have the same questions. How did you apply the thermal paste? Did you lift the heatsink after applying it? What are your max. temperatures, you still didn't clarify it.

    You're confusing me. You're saying that you did lift the heatsink and you're also saying that that you are also saying that you applied it with care. And you still didn't tell how did you apply the thermal paste????? Did you spread it?

    See these videos. It'll tell you how thermal paste spreads:

    Its showing your GPU 65C but doesn't tell much. Is it your idle temperature? What were you doing at that time on your laptop?

    PS: Use HWMonitor Pro to record your temperatures while playing the game.

    tryed it but it wont save the logs when it crashes :( dont know which temp is idle atm and i played World of Warcraft which seams to be the only game with call of duty 4 where crashes acure... Bf3 runs smoothly aswell as deadspace 3

    So i was waiting for your reply i tested something..
    i overclocked my gpu a little , which seams to delay the crash by ALOT! dont know if this helps you either.

    I am currently using to 0.83/0.85V. This mod had drastically decrease the amount of crashes in games, but it would still happen sometimes after many games of League of Legends. My current clock speed is 672/900/1344. Should I lower the gpu clock speed to maybe like 660 so that it will completely go away? if so, how can I do it? I am not sure what software I should use for changing the clock speed. Thanks

    do you mean Underclock?
    because it is very weird it crash lower by Overclocking the card, wich is basically pushing the card even more ^^

    @jingtai1993

    exactly :)

    if the mod doesnt fix the crash issue fully, you will have also to underclock the gpu a little, try with 660 mhz, the issue should be totally fixed like that way, else try 650 mhz

    Quick question: Does the Intel ME update on the first post still work? Seems to create an error.log which says "This program cannot be run on the current platform."
    I'm currently on the stock ME from Dell.
    However, using advanced custom 540m A12 with 2D PROFILE: 0.83v 3D PROFILE: 0.92v ( Ctr + F the MD5: 4A4215FB25C4FCEDD6F64037B77792B3 ) which works great :D

    yeah,sadly, underclocking seems the only solution for your case, let us to know if you still experiencing crashes even with underclocking

    @NovaTornado

    yes, the ME update still working

    that error is weird, are you running windows 7 x64? or older/newer OS?

    that update is tested under windows7 x64 only

    glad the modded bios works great for you :)

    Kasar, you are dabuti :)

    I should have returned to this thread earlier. Yesterday and today i read all what i missed.

    In the meantime so much was made possible to our machine. Even some basic fan control with HWiNFO64, hopefully it can get even better, including temperature ranges for turning the fan on and off. Unfortunately i get stuttering depending on the time value i put into the "Respin period" field. Unfortunately it seems that it needs to be checked for the fan control to work.

    Another issue i have is the high "CPU Package Power". A long time ago i asked about this in the Throttlestop thread but i was told it was normal not getting below 5.5W with an i7-2670QM(at 800MHz). But now i have seen NeoMesal in the owners lounge thread posting a screenshot showing like 3.5W for his i7-2630QM which is basically the same cpu, showing temp less than 40°C: http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...2-dell-xps-15-r2-l502x-owners-lounge-400.html (at the bottom)
    I wonder how he does it. This 2W in idle make a huge difference in temperature and fan behaviour.

    Well, thanks again Kasar. Now i will flash the modded A12 0.83/0.85. Do you recommend flashing the Intel ME 7.1.52.1176 or is it riskier than flashing the bios? If i understood it correctly for overclocking the cpu(grats!) you wrote into protected areas of the Winbond flash? Maybe you can sell these modified chips to interested users(like me :) Another question: How did you solder the bios-socket to the mainboard? From the backside? I really would like to do it, but i dont dare.

    Another remark: This threat should qualify you as a high level technical guy independent of any formal qualification. With your bright mind you could do such stuff in a lot of areas.

    All my best wishes to you!

    @gilipollas

    thanks!

    that BIOS version should be fine :), make sure you have the v5 version of the mod to archive the best results.

    as for the Intel ME 7.1.52.1176 update, it isnt risky to flash it, it is well tested, anyway ensure the laptop have the battery fully charged , that it is plugged to a wall, and that you dont have other apps opened (usual secure flashing procedure ;) )

    the ME update doesnt have nothing to do with overclocking, it is an update over the stock ME version in order to fix some posible bugs and maybe add some other features like any other update.

    however, I relased a ME patch for the Intel ME 7.1.52.1176 update, the tricky part is that it need an unlocked descriptor settings.
    it require to change data on a protected area of the windbond flash like you said.
    and the only way to do that for the L502X, is desolder BIOS chip, create a DUMP from the chip, and hex edit the image.

    changed needed are easy, just look for this string

    00 00 0B 0A 00 00 0D 0C 18 01 08

    and change it to

    00 00 FF FF 00 00 FF FF 18 01 08

    then flash the modded image to the chip, and resolder the chip.

    the tricky part is the hardware modding needed to access the BIOS chip

    more info about the hardware part is here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...ed-bioses-download-gpu-voltages-more-129.html

    as for how I soldered the sockets, first I desoldered the bios chip manually using a cheap soldering iron with a decent thing head (if the head isnt thin enough, you will need to rasp it or replace it with the smallest posible size)

    I used a small trick to desolder the chip

    I used a a small sewing pin to leverage to lift each leg meanwhile you apply heat with the soldering iron (dont lift the leg too much or it will break, and dont apply heat during a lot of time, or the chip will get damaged like the first one I had after several solderings and desolderings)

    as for the socket soldering is the same, but you dont need the sewing pin at all.

    you will need to take appart the whole laptop if you want to be confortable while soldering it, you need to have the motherboard away from any plastic case.

    then while asembly the unit, you may need to cut a small square from the top cover under the palmrest (dont worry, then the unit is completly asemblied it isnt visible, but it is needed to fit the socket, it also make easier to remove the chip by just removing the palmrest in order to access the socket, because once the socket is properly soldered, take appart the whole unit isnt needed anymore.

    its very important you save your first chip backup in a safe place, because if things go wrong, you will need it to restore your laptop.

    well, as for the programmer, you can build a cheap/easy one like the one I did (it is the easiest one I found) or you can buy some premade programmers, but cost will be also higher.

    If you have in mind replicate this mod, please, keep me updated, I am very interested to see if someone else can replicate this mod too on this machine, because as far I know my L502X is the only one with overclock unlocked.

    keep me updated about your progress, and if you need help, during the process feel free to ask ;)

    and thank you so much for your comments!

    and well, if u want to know, I still looking for a job :D

    Does the memory frequency option in the BIOS work? Can I change it from 1333MHz to 1600MHz on my i7 2630QM?

    not sure if it will works with your proccesor anyway, because on this site it report just 1066/1333 speeds

    ARK | Intel® Core info for i7-2630QM

    @all

    adding right now aditional info about how to unlock descriptor and Overclock the L502X at the first post, however, hardware modding is required, that is why it is labeled more advanced mods.

    Intel ME firmware update for L502X DOWNLOAD from mediafire /// MIRROR by ximinez
    MD5 checksum: 868A6D2E1947ACD50A1D79295F2CC504
    Intel ME FW version: 7.1.52.1176
    notes: Intel ME firmware update tested on L502X, stock Intel ME firmware for L502X is 7.0.4.1197.

    Both is working fine.

    I would really love to have the mod but i dont dare doing it :) Also i need the laptop and flashing bios and ME is the highest risk i would take right now.

    I remember you wrote somewhere that without changing the descriptor it is possible to set the fsb to values between 95 and 100MHz. I dont remember where i read it. Is it true? And which program is necesary? Or am i confusing something?

    @gilipollas

    added to the first post ^^

    I also modified the first post with aditional info to be able to overclock the machine and unlock the descriptor.

    let me know if you want to give a try to the mod later ;)

    and as for change the BCLK from 95 - 100mhz (underclocking only)
    I used
    XTU-Setup 3.1.201.5.msi

    the same app wich let to Overclock with the patched ME for overclocking I made.

    lol, actually i did lower the package power by about one Watt by reversing the tweak in the link below, hopefully doing this is not stupid.
    How To Improve SSD performance on Intel Series 4, 5 and 965 chipsets (Stamatisx Tweak)

    XTU shows me a slider to change the bclk between 99.5MHz(not 95) and 100MHz, but when clicking 'apply' it switches back to 100MHz. So i guess editing the descriptor is also needed for underclocking?

    Anybody knows which parts are CRU (Customer Removable Unit) so we can dismount them without voiding the warranty? I can't find that info on Dell site (only CRU definition)... Probably HDD, RAM... But question is: PCI (WiFi etc.) too?

    @gilipollas

    mmm, it worked fine for me even without modding the ME or descriptor.
    are you sure , it doesnt works for you?

    try having CPU-Z running at the desktop to ensure it doesnt changes.

    however, that isnt very usual.

    for me, after editing the ME region, I removed the limits and it apply changes without issues.

    @agalin

    probably , ram and minipci cards (the one removables from the expansion door.), hdd and optical drive maybe too, but I have no idea at all, my warranty ... well, it doesnt exist anymore xD
