    Hi guys,

For the last year or so my computer will lock up during a video game by going all pink/green and at this point a loud sound will come out of the speakers. My only option is the reboot the unresponsive laptop. Today was the first day this happened outside of a video game. And happened during a skype call!! So now this is effecting my daily business life :(

    I have tried many things.

    - Down volt on the GPU using methods mentioned here (fixed my problem for a short time.. was pleased at this point).
    - Tried different Video Drivers
    - Re-install Windows 7,
    - Changed the Power Cord

But the problem is still here.. I am out of options. I plan to replace the motherboard - out of warranty :( .. at this point Dell has quoted $299 Canadian to get the replacement(shipping there and back), labour + part. Sound pretty good but is there a place I could order a new motherboard online and do it myself for cheaper?

I rather not lose a laptop for a week.

Let me know what you think about my situation :)

if undervolting the GPU didnt fully fixed the problem, you will also need to underclock the GPU.

you will lose a little graphical performance, but well, its better than constant crashings while playing games ^^

try decreasing by 5 mhz the GPU until it stop crashing.

I asume your GPU is a gt540m clocked at 675 mhz, right?

It is at 672 mhz.. but you were close :p

And why would it crash in the same fashion during a Skype session? Sounds like a bigger issue than the GPU. Well Do you think a motherboard replacement would fix the issue?

    hehe, yeah, 672 I forgot ^^

it crash because skype.exe is probably set to use the nvidia gpu at the nvidia control panel.

I learned that most of non gamming aplications crash with nvidia optimus while set to the high performance GPU.

those are aps such as windows live mail, mozilla firefox, skype and others.

my sugestion is just use the nvidia GPU for games and high demanding graphical apps, else it will not be usefull at all, will consume more power, and also will probably crash on the 2d aplications.

my advice is to watch wich programs are using the nvidia gpu, and set them to the intel gpu

after set the app to integrated graphics, you will need to restart the afected app in order to take effect, skype in your case.

then check no apps are using the nvidia gpu

srry for the spanish language at the pics, but well, I supose the images will help anyway :)

my advice is use only the nvidia gpu for high demanding apps such as games, and if it crash on games, underclock the card.

This is a different idea/method for addressing the problem:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-cards/695023-nvidia-realtek-audio-issue.html

May not work at all for you.

ALso, you can probably buy a motherboard online at ebay.com and install it yourself, which may be kindof difficult. Just make sure the motherboard has the right video card (either 525m or 540m).

Example: New Original Genuine Dell XPS L502X Motherboard DAGM6CMB8D0 NXH8C | eBay is cheaper but I dont know what video card is installed, so you would have to contact the seller.

@capitankasar : I see that I have default set to 'integrated solution'. But good thinking.
@conscriptvirus: My issue is a little different considering I get a complete pink or green screen and the game does not continue. (forces me to reboot).

I may have to dish out the cash for a motherboard. I knew the price for this thing when I bought it was too good to be true.

Pink and green screens sounds bad. I think your GPU is toast, or near to it at least.
