I'm just wondering, is the L502X compatible with PC3-12800 rams or just PC3-10600? Thanks in advance

Which L502X? If your L502X configuration has an i7 QM, the answer is yes.

Does the RAM actually operate at 1600MHz?

    Yes.

2x8GB SO-DIMMs. Dell doesn't say that 8GB is maximum. They just don't support the configuration.

Ive heard that dram frequency isnt actually the real time frequency of the ram, so it might not actually be running at 1600 even though it says it is. I have tried this with desktops in the past on mobo's with max limits of 1333mhz but cpu id, still said it was running at 1600 when it is litterally impossible to do on that mobo. So that might not be accurate.

Perhaps. But the BIOS says the speed is 1600MHz, and WEI increased to 7.8 as well.

That's just a report on the characteristics of the device itself.

(Similarly, on a system that supports only SATA 3.0Gb/s, a SATA 6.0Gb/s SSD is reported as such, but does not operate at that speed.)

If I had spent the extra cash for the last CPU upgrade, I could with reasonable certainty claim that I had one of the fastest l502x in the world :p
(But the i7-2860QM cost an extra USD717!)

Going from 8GB to 16GB does have a positive influence on RAM WEI.

Yes. But I tested with 2x8GB before I bought the 1600MHz ones. The WEI increased when I upgraded from 1333 to 1600...

Kaso take your negative vibes elsewhere, it's well documented that the L502X as well as other SB notebooks can run RAM @1600Mhz, just google it!

I'd like to actually see real benchmarks of DDR3 1600, 1866, 2133 memory compared with 1333MHz on our system. I want to see what kinds of gains there actually are, especially since going from 16GB of 1333 to 16GB of 1600 is roughly $50 difference.

Saying "the L502X" doesn't mean much! What are "other SB notebooks"? Generic statements like these do not help.

    To support 1600MHz RAM, an L502X must have an i7 QM processor. Dual-core i7 M and i5 M only support DDR3-1066/1333.

Google this yourself: Compare Intel® Products.

My l702x is locked in the bios to 1333mhz. I think dell like their xps 15 users more than their xps 17 users.

Btw you need win 7 pro or ultimate for it to recognise more than 16gb of ram.

Here is what you may want to consider:

    Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G

I installed in my L502X with the Ccre I7 2620M, it runs at 1863 mhz with no issues.

It has to be a BIOS reporting issue, AFAIK no mobile Sandy Bridge CPU is supported to run 1866 mhz RAM.

And for 1666 mhz it requires > 2710QE CPU.

Yes whatever your pc is telling you, it is not running at 1800mhz.

It could be a bios isue, however the laptop runs significantly faster with this memory, I used AIDA64 to meaure the Speed as well as the BIOS itself.
