I'm about ready to destroy this thing. Ever since I replaced my stock HDD with an SDD my cursor jumps around when typing (the trackpad is turned OFF btw). I'll be typing in one box then typing somewhere else that I never clicked on OR I'll be typing a sentence then I will be back at the beginning of said sentence or somewhere in between. I used to have a cheapy Acer laptop that did this from day one but I'm quited erked that the XPS is doing it. What could I have done while opening up the unit to replace the HDD to cause this to happen? I was extremely careful and don't have any regrets about opening the casing up, nothing bad happened to my knowledge.
Thanks

just to be sure, did you re-install the Synaptics driver?
It's also possible that you didn't plug the trackpad's cable properly when you re-assembled the unit. This sounds like erratic behaviour I had with my 1645 until I reseated the trackpad's cable. However the problem I had was immediate (it jumped around all the time, even when not typing, so I knew to fix it immediately). -
I'll have to open the chassis and check but I didn't unplug that tape like cable (assuming that's what you meant) when I replaced the HDD, I just set the overlaying piece with the trackpad to the side and was careful not to move it much.

Step #5 from this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...stallation-cpu-gpu-repasting-56k-warning.html
Because those cables aren't really plugged into the motherboard, they are very, very easy to leave unseated properly. They really need to be securely locked into place. Even if you didn't unplug them, the strain on the cable from lifting the keyboard+trackpad assembly could have made them loose. I think this is what may have happened. -
Hey daver160,
I took everything apart and made sure that the cables were plugged in snugly on to both the motherboard and the palm rest assembly but my keyboard is still skipping all over the place still for the last few months, just was too lazy to make another post here. Is it possible to get replacements for the cables shown in the pics? The cables were like this the very first time I took the laptop apart to install an SSD.

Hi, I just wanted to say I had this issue and I had no idea it was a big issue so I just reformatted it and that fixed the problem.
But now I have the issue of bf3 crashing like no other. -
I formatted but that didn't fix anything, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the cable/connection between the palm rest assembly and the motherboard...it's really annoying to have to use this laptop at all now!
