Hi,
I can't seem to find the answer to this in the forum.....
I have an L701X with an i5 560m CPU, the motherboard is the one with 2 DIMM slots, the chipset is HM57 so can I upgrade the CPU to i7 with this board?
TIA

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
If your machine is configured with Optimus you can only go to another Arrandale processor as Optimus' final display is done through the Intel GPU and Clarksfield i7s do not have the Intel GPU on die.

Yeah right. So the maximum you can go is the i7 640M. Upgrading to clarksfield isn't possible, as clarksfield has a different architecture.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I wanted to hear some opinions on this upgrade. See, I have a L701X with a Core i3 380m processor and I've been thinking of upgrading it to an i7 620m or 640m, but first I want to make sure I won't have problems. Has anyone done this with this laptop, and if so, how did it go?

Who said anything about SNB? Clarksfield and Arrandale processors are not Sandy Bridge CPU's.
