    Hi guys,

I'm in trouble in choice the LCD for my new L702X.
    The choice is beetween :
    1) WLED HD+ 1600*900 glossy
    2) WLED FULLHD AG (non 3d)
(the 3D is too expansive for me)

I will use it manly in photo (and video) editing, and for normally office work for the rest of time.

Actually I've an old Inspiron 6400 with glossy 1600*1080 as benchmark,
I've not experience with AG LCD and full hd resolution.

What do you suggest to buy?

    Thanks to everybody.

    Mizio

1080p is better for photo/video editting, BUT the AG on the 1080p distorts the color too much. If you're going w/ the L702, get the 1080p 3D.

I think so, but the 3DFHD is too expansive for me. The choice is between the 900p and the 1080p AG.

If you're truly worried about image quality and photo/video editing, then no laptop panel is really good, as they are all TN panels (except the HP Dreamcolor2 in a $4000 laptop).

You'd be much better off buying a quality external monitor to do any editing. Dell IPS monitors are pretty good for the price, and will blow away any laptop screen.

Or, if budget is really tight, the B+RG 1080p screen on the XPS15 is pretty decent for a laptop, but it's still just a TN panel (poor viewing angles, color/gamma change drastically depending on the vertical angle, color/gamma differ between the top and bottom of the screen, etc). Look at this link for an example: Viewing angle - Lagom LCD test The image shown is just one color, but on a TN panel it looks like the color changes from the top to the bottom of the screen, making it a poor choice for photo/video editing.

Thank you for suggest, in future perhaps I buy an external monitor, but at the moment I don't need the best quality (i know that TN panel are not the best), but I'm searching for a decent panel coupled with the XPS 17.
So, the question is reduced to "Excluding resolution, is better quality the 900p or the 1080p AG"?

IMHO, I would get the 1080p as it has more pixels.

Get an external ;p NEC PA series highly recommended. Eizo if you can afford it.

It helps though to have 1080p, you won't regret the extra screen real-estate. I use the inbuilt 1080p as a second monitor to hold palettes etc.

    cheers,
    dave

    Thank you for all suggests.

At the end, I bought the following configuration:
    XPS 17 L702X
    Cpu 2630QM, RAM 8GB
    LCD 900p TL
    HDD 2 * 320GB 7200rpm
    NVIDIA GT555M 3GB

I will think in future if get an external monitor for editing.

    Bye (and thanks again)

    Mizio

Did you look at the outlet, probably less expensive than you think?
