Is the battery charging or is it fully charged(100%).Has the power cable slipped out at the laptop or maybe at the power brick.Have you tried to unplug the cable and shutdown the pc.Then plug it in again and restart.

With my laptop the cable can slip away(not fully out) from the connection very easy, I've been caught out by it a couple of times. What %charge is the indicator showing in the taskbar.Had you been playing games or anything when this appeared, maybe the battery is overheated.

I know the battery charging sometimes switches off to prevent overcharging, when the power source is plugged in for long periods.Have you checked the dell battery meter(right click on the power icon in the taskbar),to see the status of the battery and battery health?
