I have a mini DV based Sony Handycam that requires a firewire port on the computer to transfer the digital video. I have several mini DV tapes I need to copy. That said, I have a Dell XPS 17 3D (L702X) which does not have a firewire port, or even an Express Card slot (as with most new laptops).

Is there an adapter that that allows a firewire connection through USB 3.0 or through eSATA? If not, is there an external enclosure for PCI Express cards that connects using USB 3.0 or eSATA?

I've been doing quite a bit of googling and searching, but I think I may be out of luck. Thanks!

USB to Firewire adapters do not work.

You need to find another computer to get Firewire to work..
