Howdy all. I just got my XPS 17 today and I did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. I started installing the drivers but when I got to the Nvidia driver, I can't continue.

I get the following message from the installer:
    Install cannot continue
The graphics driver could not find compatible hardware.

I have a GT 555M and have tried various Nvidia drivers with no luck, including the ones on the disk provided with the machine, Dell's website, and Nvidia's website, but they all have the same issue.

I've also tried disabling the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter in the Device Manager (which worked for installing the Intel driver), as well as uninstalling it, but to no avail.

Below is my GPU-Z for the second video adapter (the first is the Intel one).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go to device manager and click scan for hardware changes, it should start installing an old driver for the gpu, restart and then install the newer one.

Have the same problem, received my new XPS 17 yesterday and was doing a clean install on a SSD drive I bought. Everything working except the 550 video card. Tried the disk, downloaded the off dell and Nvidia. And I get "The graphics driver could not find compatible hardware". Tried updating the driver manually, nothing.

just a guess but did you install the intel video drivers first? if you have optimus, the drivers might have to do soemthing with the intel video card before it can work properly.

I'm having the exact same issue, i'm thinking it might be due to the A14 bios that shipped with our new L702x? the fresh install guide says that A13 is the latest bios.. is there a way to rollback to A13 bios?

When I got my L702x in September it has the A12 BIOS and I did not have any trouble installing the drivers using the Dell folder and even the Nvidia drivers installed. If the A14 BIOS is giving you problems then I won't update if it is released.

I did install the Intel drivers first, however they were from Intel's website. I got the following error "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." when trying to install the ones on the driver disc or from Dell's website. Unfortunately that driver caused my screen to randomly blink when on battery power.

I was able to force the Nvidia driver to install using a modified INF file.

Could you point me where I can get this modified INF file?

Order doesn't matter at all. You just need the C:\Drivers directory from the original image, not the CD or website (assuming you don't have to have the absolutely latest and greatest driver pack).

From Device Manager, do an Update Driver on EVERY item on the list even they are "working properly".

The fix on the dell website has worked for me but I want the latest drivers from the nvidia site, any ideas?
