A couple weeks ago, the screen in my l702x developed a line of bad pixels and was replaced onsite by a tech. The old glass was Chi Mei, the new one has a hardware ID of LGD02DA.
The new glass has a noticeable flicker. Its pretty bad when the laptop is cold, and tapers off as it warms up, after an hour or so, its completely gone.
This isnt related to refresh rate. The screen dims for a fraction of a second, then goes back to normal brightness, it happens maybe a couple times within a second, then it might be 10-15 seconds before it happens again. Initially I thought the tech left something loose inside, because it seemed to coincide with my typing, but that was just coincidence. It happens when I sit back and watch from a few feet away.
It happens and is very noticeable in BIOS set up screens.
It happens on battery or AC, and on AC with the battery removed.
I have the latest BIOS and video drivers, both Intel and Nvidia, as of 08/18/2011.
Talking with Dell support yesterday, the tech had me hold down the D key when powering up, which ran a video test that displayed a solid color on the entire screen, then cycled through all the primary colors. He said the test worked properly.
Anyone else see this behavior and/or have any ideas on how to deal with it?
