I just received my L702X. After doing some partitions I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate, the OS that came with the laptop was a Home Premium.

After the installation, I went to the DELL's website and downloaded all the drivers I think my laptop needed.

After that I opened my device manager, and under "Display adapters", there's an error icon on "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". I double clicked on the icon and the status read "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

So I uninstalled the driver, restarted the computer. After the restart the computer did an automatic search and downloaded/installed the newest driver off the internet, but when I go to device manager the same code 10 message appeared. When I use the "update driver" function on the "driver" tab, it gave me a message that "windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."

I have a 17" FHD 1920x1080 display and nvidia 550 with Optimus if this information helps.

Can anyone tell me what can I do to fix this error?

    Information is as below:

    Driver provider: Microsoft
    Driver Date: 6/21/2006
    Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
    Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows
    Device type: Display adapters
    Manufacturer: (Standard display types)
Location: PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0

Any help or suggestion is appreciated!

standard vga graphics adapter is just your monitor. Here's what I recommend:
    1. make sure you can see stuff on your screen
    2. don't worry about it.

if you want to be safe, run a game on it and make sure it can switch to nvidia.
Then stick something into the mini display port and see if the secondary monitor works.

As long as you're not particularly OCD about it, and those tests work, you should be fine.

    Thanks for the fast response.

I forgot to mention I have nvidia 550 with Optimus on the laptop. When I looked at the device manager, I don't see anything with nvidia. And when I search for nvidia programs in the start menu, nothing shows up as well.

I went to nvidia's website and downloaded the 550 driver. However, when I tried to install it, it says "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". So I'm pretty sure this is the reason for the code 10 error.

Any idea on how I can fix it?

I've downloaded all three you've mentioned.

The Intel Huron River (HM 67) was installed with no problem. But I couldn't install the other two files.

The Intel HD Graphics 3000 gives me this message when I try to install it: "The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

And the nvidia 550M give me the following message when I try to install it: "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." I get the same message with the software I downloaded from nvidia's own website.

Furthermore, my Waves Maxx Audios is not working. So I tried to download DELL Quickset. It gives me "This is not a supported system" message when I try to install it.

hmmm I would recommend you to reinstall windows again(sorry) and the first thing you do, is to install those three, and only those three drivers. If that doesn't work, you might need to call dell :(

Thanks for helping me out. :)

I'll try to reinstall windows, and follow what you've suggested. Hopefully it'll be enough.
