    Hello,

Whats the battery wear level in your laptops?

I have been using laptop for last 3 months. Only at home and mostly plugged in to the mains. I never discharge battery to lower then 20%/

The battery wear after this period is 12%.

    thanks

As reported by what tool? Many of those tools are not necessarily accurate.

Mines about 20% after 8 months. But i havent looked after it properly untill recently. Im now keeping the battery at 20% charge level with charging turned off to see if it will help the wear level. Im using hwmonitor to btw.

Thats a bit strange - mine is about 6% after 6 months of use. I have discharged it a copule of times at full and then charge it up 100%.

Mine is 17% after 3 months checked using HWMonitor.

Whats the best way to preserve battery capacity?

What do you do to preserve it as its obviously working? Do you turn charging off? Level you keep it at etc?

Mine is 9% since September 2011. The thing is when I got the laptop in September 2011 it already had a 3% wear. I keep mine plugged all the time. If I unplug it for even five minutes and then plug it back in the battery will charge and then the wear level will go up 1%.

Wear level 4% after 4 months. When not on battery, kept at 40% charge with a discharge/charge cycle per month if on charge all the time.

My XPS is plugged in most of the time and it always on, never sleep or hibernate. Had it for 9 months and am at 4% wear level. You don't have to do anything to a Lithium-Ion battery. It doesn't matter what you charge it to...keep it charged to...discharge it...etc etc etc. Lithium-Ion are zero maintenance batteries. Whatever you think you're doing to extend anything it's in your head..lol It's the same battery that's in your cell phone and I've heard 100 different things about well if you charge it this and that way you'll get a longer run time....no you won't. I'm sure some will reply well mine lasts longer if I do this and that. If you want to think that...great...but as I said it's all in your head. No matter what anyone says there is no way to make your battery last longer. I've had laptops forever and have never had a battery fail on me.

I am using my laptop for 8 months now, wear level showing 10%. It's mostly plugged in, though.

Yes and no. LiIon is a maint-free battery yes, but that only refers to any sort of memory effect. Lithium batteries don't like to stay fully charged if they aren't being used, which is why they fail sooner when always stored at 100%. If you store the battery at 40%, they last longer. Temperature also plays into it, but not as much.

Original 93Wh 9 cell battery, plugged in all the time in first year of use, barely used on battery. Battery was already worn out to 8% when recieved and it wore out to11% in one year.
Then next year used it a lot on battery and battery wore out to 81% in just one year time period.
Here is the snap of my dead battery which served me 2 years. :)

And here is a shot of my brand new 9 cell Bay Valley replacement battery. It isn't as high capacity as original one. It is a 73Wh battery which already has wear level of 7% out of box.
