Take a look. I found an interesting point, in the setup manual it shows viewing angles of the Dells new FHD 3D monitor-horizontal 60/60 vertical 50/50 compared to our HD+ (1600X900) horizontal 40/40 vertical 15/30.

Thanks for that :) I looked yesterday but they weren't up then.

I ordered my L702x on the 22nd Feb.. its still 'work in progress' (maybe Dell are still waiting for the fixed chipsets?)

These manuals have answered a few questions I had.

Have you ordered a L702x yet? If so, is yours still work in progress?

Why didn't they write any information about SATA 1/2/3 ports? :(

It statea in specification that the chipset is HM67, so look up on intel the spec sheets on the HM67 chipset for SATA info.

HM67 I think comes with 2 SATAIII ports and 4 SATAII ports.
However the two SATAIII ports will go to the HDD bays, and a SATAII port each to the optical drive and eSATA port. And the other 2 will be unused/and probably will never be able to

Yeah, I already checked the HM67 specs before.
But I wasn't so sure that Dell would actually provide the sataIII ports for the HDD bays. Is it an obvious thing? (I haven't bought a laptop in a long time so I am not much up to date with the market...)

The ports are physically identical and are backward/forward compatable.
So unless you are using a SATAIII SSD then it wont matter and you wont see any difference.
If you are using a SATAIII SSD then to check you can use the intel rapid storage technology interface to check which ports are populated and what SATA revision they are

Yes, my idea was to buy a SataIII SSD if I could make sure the SataIII ports are available in the XPS 17.
Btw, what is intel rapid storage technology interface? (sorry in case it's a dumb question^^)

Any news on Raid 0 on the new XPS 17? Seems to me that the H67 can support it... how about the BIOS?

I'm interested in knowing if it supports RAID 0 as well.

Does anyone know what the stock hard drives are? I chose the 500GB because I'll probably be replacing it.. but what do Dell generally use?

I'm surprised that Dell just say "500GB 7200RPM HDD".. there's a big difference between the lowest and highest performer in that category.

I was looking at a dual SSD setup.. but it's a bit costly at the moment so I'm thinking about those hybrid seagate momentus XT's.. if this supports RAID then that could give me great performance pretty cheap.

I've asked on Dell's chat about raid 0 capabilities for the L702x and the answer was "no"....

Ordered mine on the 2nd, after canceling four times to get what I want. Hoping to get it by the 25th.

I never could figure our what the deal is with the hard drive. No Dell rep would even answer my Sata questions. And they never did get the number of memory Dimms available correct.

The pictures from another thread on the 701x confirm that. The Dell rep told me it was only 3, but couldn't explain how they got 16 in three slots.

There are definately two hard drives.

It is the L701x forum on this board. the first page has pictures. The case and the board should be relatively similar.

My order date was the 22nd Feb.. sorry for the bad news but even mine is still 'Work in progress'. EDA is 28th March..

There's definitely two hard drive bays.. I saw pics of one from some kind of Dell reseller. Not sure about the RAM, but I'd guess 4 slots.

Dell didn't enable it. Kinda like how they solder 4 RAM clips on the 3D systems, and get lazy and only put 2 on the 2D systems. But put the same sticker on both.
