I find extra stability with lower voltages quite interesting. I am going to experiment on this once I get the time. :D

I will get to work on it right away. :D
[EDIT] BIOS file has been uploaded. Sorry for the long wait :x

Yes there is an extremely good chance that you will be able to achieve higher GPU clocks. As of this moment there are currently no unlocked BIOS mods for all XPS laptops. :( The mod is only mean to change your 3D voltage. This will not affect your idle voltage and switching between the INTEL and NVIDIA graphics. As with CUDA that just might be a bug with GPU-Z this happens alot with Optimus enabled laptops as the program mixes the technologies enabled between your INTEL and NVIDIA graphics.

It might be due to the companies intent to keep things simple when it comes to non-enthusiast notebooks. The less settings there are to play with the less problems they might face when it comes to customer support.

Thanks for all the thank you messages and feedback guys they really help. :D

    Finally!!! :D :D :D.. he replied! ^_^

i flashed my bios with the volt modded version and.........

    [IMG] [IMG]

    It Works Awesome man!!!
"even though you're a guy" I am Totally in love with you lol <3 <3

I have been using your bios for quite sometime now, running benchmarks as well as gamming, and the max temps are still the same, it never goes above 68c

    my 3dmark 11 score (P1794) @ 785mhz :).

for some reason, msi afterburner is still set to 620mhz max and evga precision also set to 760mhz max. i could only go higher with the Nvidia "performance" control panel overclocking software. Does your evga precision go higher than 760mhz after over-volt?

That's great news! I only use the NVIDIA overclocking software as it gives decent range and is located in the same control panel but other software have varying ranges.

    hi,

flashing worked and i am running the card with the higher voltag, but how to flash back to the old version?

btw: how to get over 1080MHz in Memory Clock with evga precision? Seems that you also didnt pass the 1080 Mhz

    i have the bios 70.06.32.00.02

    thanks ;)

You can use the stock A16 BIOS located in my first post to flash back to standard voltage. As for going over 1080MHz, You can use MSI Afterburner to reach higher memory clock speeds.

I'm successfully using the modded Bios 70.26.40.00.02 - thanks alot for this nice Bios Mod!

    Results in 3D Mark 11
    P 1442 (stock@590/900)
    P 1967 (850/960)

Any chance to get the Bios of the GT 555 (192Bit Bus) modded with higher voltage as the temperatures still not go past 65°C for me so I think there is still room for higher clocks.

File has been uploaded. There is only 1 file for every GPU configuration available.

New version tested and works flawlessly so far (70.06.32.00.02 GT555m). will try it more the coming days.
i would also like a higher voltage version of the mod (gpu temp still chilling at 65c!).

    3dmark Vantage: P8679 (840/1100)

    Thanks Sharadeos :D

i'm wondering: what's the point of this whole thread, of modding those BIOS if all it does can be done with MSI Afterburner software, and in these case, on the fly while running Windows??

No it can't. You can modify clocks of gpu and gpu memory, but you cannot modify voltage, which enables you to overclock more (and this modded bios essentialy does that)

Modded BIOS let's you overclock the gpu core and memory higher than stock BIOS. In return you get better fps in games and in my case those higher fps come with the same temperatures as the stock BIOS.

I have updated my BIOS with Sharadeos's version and now I can bring my 550M to 800/1600Mhz no problem. This takes gaming performance to another level so I am very happy.
However during GPU intensive games, the GPU temp can steadily hover around 85/86C...should I worry?

Thanks...and thanks for the BIOS Sharadeos.

That temperature is a little on the high side but you should not have to worry about it. You can try cleaning out the vents or replacing the thermal paste to reduce temperatures if you want to lower it.

I just wanted to post an update for my system... I have been running the modded A16 bios for a while now and my system never runs any hotter than 65 degrees celcius. I have overclocked everything to the max and it runs extremely stable. I also want to point out that I have noticed never before improvements in my gaming sessions. The ingame fps have significantly improved. Great work Sharadeos... :)

    Bios Version: 70.06.32.00.02

Sounds great! Could you share your overclocking settings? I am using 770 for core and 1000 for memory with the default voltage (0.862), so I just wondering how far I can go with 0.9120 voltage. :)

My best result in 3dmark vantage (P8790) without artifacts is with 832 core 1132 memory (gf106 gt555m). It gives a serious fps boost and with the same temps (65c under load which is the same as stock)

It seems that i have very poor luck with my GPU chip.I tried with A16-A17 moded bios and every time when i set clock above 780 i play 5-10 min my system hang and need hard reset? It is not from overheating because the left palm is warm but not hot.I tried with diferent drivers but the result is the same.Somethimes even with 770 clock laptop hangs. With 0.862 voltage i clocked to 780 and 1100 memory and i have no problem. Is my GPU have allergy to higher voltage.

Hi babmemo, If you tell me your BIOS version number for your GPU, I would gladly check if there is anything wrong with the BIOS file itself for that specific GPU. As for the voltage issues, The worst thing about an error with the bios itself is your graphics driver crashing and resetting is self due to an unknown 3D voltage but this immediately happens once some form of 3D load occurs.

System hangs are often related to the hard drive or SSD issues because communication ceases entirely within the system once your storage hangs. I also experience a system hang and needed a hard reset when I changed SSDs but this is an extremely rare occurrence.

    Hi Sharadeos,

thank you very much for the modded GPU Bios - it works fine.

Do you think its also possible to reduce cpu vcore and/ or fan control with the method you used for modding gpu vcore?

    Best regards
    Alex

Now i am using A17 moded bios, before that i was using this : 70.06.32.00.03 for A16 with gt555 106 chip. And the hang occur only when i play heavy games.I think that the problem unfortunately is with my GPU not in the bios mod.Today i played Syndicate with 800 mhz clock and after 15 min playing, the same thing happend. :)

    Hello letmeknov,

I have core clock at 770, shader clock at 1535, and memory clock at 1080. I have also tried evga precision for higher clock settings but I am happy with MSI afterburner. The temps are great too. I have just bought a new 3d version of XPS 17. Will mod the bios and post more info... The machine just came in... :)

    Hello batmemo,

I have been playing a lot of games on my new 3D version of L702x and so far the gaming performance is really good. But I must say that the temps are close to 68 degrees celsius while playing Resident Evil 5 (Direct-X 10 mode) for 4 hours. I am attaching the screens of the GPU-Z and MSI Afterburner for my overclock settings. Lemme know if you want to know about how any other games pan up on my machine specs.

    Drivers: 295.51
    GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 555M

    Hey there can anyone help,

When flashing the BIOS, I open WinFlash and then I click to try and find the new BIOS file which in my case is the A17 0.9120 (I unpacked it onto desktop) and its not there, can't find it when browsing...

Any help would be great, thanks
btw I did read the instructions and I dont get the part about "change the file type to all" - this I take is my problem if someone could give me some more details... thanks!

Edit:: Just found out my comp is running the A11 dell BIOS lol and also my GPU bios is 70.06.32.00.02 if that info is needed.

Edit #2: Ok, so I just changed the file extension to "." which means all right? But I still cant see it / find it when I look for it to flash.
