My 3 month old Dell l702x has suddenly started playing up, or should I say playing up again!
When I first bought it I had blank screens for a few weeks but then they stopped. Now I`m again getting occasional blank screens which forces a reboot , i`m also getting occasional 6 beeps when powering on and its also freezing when inside the bios.

    The blank screens

Doesnt matter what I`m doing the screen will go blank but the computer is still functioning ie music still plays, keyboard lights still function. Only way is to reboot. I`ve disabled all power options but still doing it. I`ve had 10 blank screens in 2 days. Thought it was the new nvidia drivers so reverted back to older ones but still have the same problem.

    Beeping
Had 4 times over the last few days a series of 6 beeps when powering up. Have to shut down and wait and it`ll then start.

    Freezing
When inside the bios screen moving through the menus with the arrow keys it`ll just freeze up. Needs a reboot to get out of it. It even froze at the start of the memory test of the diagnostics, running it a second time it ran through no problem.

I`m using the latest A12 bios. Have 2 4gb ram sticks which I have tried running individually and am still getting the bios freezing problem . Check the temperatures and nothing out of the ordinary.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks

Beeping on startup = post failure. Get Dell to investigate, likely RAM or something is faulty / not seated properly.

    Thanks.
Tried the ram sticks individually but both causing these problems. I think it is something not seated properly as its completely random. Yesterday morning I had 5 blank screens and then it was fine the rest of the day until 10pm. highly annoying when its used for your business. Also the freezing inside the bios menus points to something hardware as it rules out any driver problems.

Its the last time I buy a dell. I had problems with a previous dell. Having a second machine play up is either very unlucky or just bad workmanship. I suspect its the latter.

You'll get the same with most manufacturers to be honest, even if they did burn in tests for a long time on each machine, things can work loose during shipping / transit etc and parts will fail after a short time. It's how they handle it that counts. If it's a business machine then hopefully you have NBD support. We get it "free" from the dell outlet in the UK. I had my screen swapped out the next day.

Well theyve agreed to change the motherboard, I have next day repair. But unfortunately I`ve since moved abroad so now theyre saying I have to transfer my account to the new address which takes upto 30 days. Then I need to call support again for the local dell services to fix it. Shame they didnt mention this when I told them i`d be moving abroad when I ordered the laptop.

so once again, last time I buy a dell.
