I suddenly have this problem with my LCD on XPS 1530, at random my screen gets random green lines and freezes. I can restart the computer and the issue is resolved. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my driver and still have the issue, not sure if anyone else has ran into this issue?

Uh oh.... That's about the scariest thing I've ever encountered short of releasing the magic smoke. Basically, your screen or graphics card has died.

    I mourn your loss.

I suspected one or the other was on the fritz. Any idea how to figure out which one it is without starting to replace things? If its the graphics card I may as well get rid of the computer seeing as Dell integrated it to the motherboard...Could this be caused by the heat problems (even though Dell says they fixed)..or if it is the screen, could it be caused by the replacement screen (had it replaced once) being inferior quality to the original LG screens?

    Thanks.

Hook up an external screen. If it works like normal, your monitor is toast.

Its sounds to me like it is most definitely the graphics card. I've had that issue in desktops a few times and it was always the graphics. In fact, my 3870 in my PC right now is starting to throw a few artifacts and green lines from time to time. Still, hook it up an external monitor just to eliminate the screen as the culprit. Leave it hooked up for a while too. How long is the laptop usually turned on before it starts doing this? Leave it hooked up to the external monitor for at least that long, or longer if needed. Try some gaming or anything else thats hard on the graphics card to heat it up. If the its the card, heat usually brings out the issues.

If it is the card, aren't the 8400M and 8600GT (not sure which one you have) included among the affected GPU's that Dell extended the warranty coverage on?
