I have an XPS m1530 that has an LED LCD. Lately I've noticed that the brightness on the monitor just doesn't seem as sharp as it once was. A few days ago I had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison with another new XPS m1530 and there was a slight, although noticeable difference between the two in terms of the brightness. Could it really be the case that my LED LCD is already starting to dim a bit after a year? Is this the experience of others or should I consult Dell for a replacement?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I don't think it should be doing that at all. :( Are you doing any adjusting to the screen brightness to see, the difference?

If, it were me..I would prob's end up contacting Dell for a replacement. ;)

    Cin ;) :)

LED's should not dim over time. they just burn out but that takes manny manny years they are rated something like 100,000 + hours...

I notice this on ccfl's a lot but have never owned an led backlit screen to tell. one would think they would last a lot longer.

You are probably comparing it to a different make of the screen.. There might be isolated bright spots over time, due to uneven matrix burns.. where the LEDs are located.. but there shouldn't be any dimming..

technically they DO dim over time.. they are rated at 60,000+ hours, but they dont just burst out like a light bulb... they dim out over time as you get close to that time

i have a homemade led torch, not enough heatsink to disburse the heat, two of the LEDs are much dimmer than the rest

LEDs do dim over time. They generally have a 35,000 to 50,000 hour 'useful' lifetime, after which they will be noticeably dimmer.

sesshomaru, I'm likely comparing it to a different make given that my laptop was purchased one year before the laptop I used for comparison. However, thanks to this thread I still think I'm going to give Dell a call.

    Thanks everyone for the help!
