I understand the basic differences between the two technologies, but I'd like to know how the differences relate specifically to the 1530.

Right now, my debate is : 1900x1200 LCD vs. 1440x900 LED.

I like the idea of having an LED screen, specifically for lower power consumption, quicker "on-time", and thinner frame. However, I have to sacrifice by getting a lower resolution screen. On the 1530, does the thinness of the LED screen translate into an overall thinner notebook? It's important to note, that the lower power consumption of the LED isn't much of realistic issue for me, because I'm plugged into a socket 99% of the time. I simply like the idea of being more environmentally friendly.

Please offer recommendations on your preferred screen, and why.

    Thanks.

I'd recommend the 1440x900. The lower resolution will be much easier on the eyes on a 15.4" screen, and 1920x1200 on a 15.4" is just too much IMHO. Plus, you do get the brighter LED screen that uses a bit less battery life.

If I were you I would be more interested in what you really want for screen resolution. 1440X900 and 1920X1200 are two VERY different resolutions.

I personally have a 17" notebook with 1920X1200 and love it, but I can't see a very good useability of this resolution on anything but a 17" or larger. This is also shown by the majority of desktop monitors over 17" using only 1680X1050.

1920X1200 is a lot, and it makes the overall experience for me great having all of the extra screen real estate, but IMHO the res would be too high on a 15", whereas 1440X900 would be very nice. :)

Also, in the long run you would be glad to have gotten an LED I think...

    Hope this helps! :D

for me with 1920x1200 on 15" everything would've been to small,
its up to you if you can work with 1920x1200.
    and LED is LED :)

I have an Inspiron 8500 running on my desk with the 15.4 inch screen and 1920x1200 resolution. It looks great for a five or six year-old display. I also have a 17 inch laptop at 1920x1200, a 24 inch 1920x1200 Dell LCD and 17 inch Dell LCD on my desk and really appreciate the amount of usable display space on these systems.

If your eyes can handle it, then go for it.

I really like the LED backlit screens too. I have three systems with them and appreciate the technical benefits and a mercury-free product. WUXGA displays were pretty popular on 15.4 inch notebooks several years ago but availability dropped pretty sharply after they came out. I think that most people don't have the level of visual acuity to look at a 15.4 inch WUXGA screen for long periods of time. I think that most people can't even handle WSXGA. You might try the business lines of Dell and HP to see if they have
what you are looking for. I think that Voodoo and Alien might have something
like this but it would probably run $4K.

This information is great, guys. I'm holding off on the purchase, but when I finally cave, I'll be going for the LED @ 1440x900.

Man, Dell really needs to bring back the 1650x1080 option. I can't imagine my m1530 without it. But then again, I was one of the lucky ones able to switch from the Samsung to the LG 1680x1050 panel.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but on my LED LCD I have noticeable bleeding around the edges. I'm afraid to send it in because I hear you usually just get a worse (refurbished) screen. I dunno how badly the more expensive screen bleeds, if at all.

Also, note that the more expensive screen is involved in the LG mess, I think. If you don't get the LG screen, your quality will likely be sub par, which means haggling with dell.

I'd say go with the LED screen, the bleeding is actually quite minor UNLESS im watching DVDs.. which is a big, big, unless (because watching DVDs is an important feature of any computer) but not a deal breaker.

I agree with sko105- I also have the 1680x1050 LPLF300 panel and I can confirm it's perfect. My brother's Macbook Pro has an 1440x900 LED and my panel blows it away....

Having said that- with the current options available I would get the 1440x900LED right now....

The images/text on the 1920x1200 might be to small for a 15.4 screen - I would only get that screen if I got the Blu-ray drive.

BUT - You cannot say the LED screens are always better - there are some great CCFL LCDs out there - luck of the draw really
