    Hi Everyone,

I'm starting to look into a laptop cooler for my new XPS 17. What's everybody using for their laptops? Any suggestions on what to get?

These are some that I'm looking at:
Cooler Master NotePal U3 Notebook Cooler
    Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US
NZXT CRYO LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler
    Cooler Master Storm SF 19
    Zalman NC-3000U Notebook Cooler

I was researching a lot on coolers also and decided to go with the Cooler Master NotePal U3 because of the mobility of the fans. I'm able to fully overclock and reach temps of 69 C when playing SCII, so take my experience for what it is. The only thing I wanted more was the fan speed, I also have two card decks holding the front portion because I dislike the intense angle that it provides, but other than that, I'm satisfied and it does what it does.

Perhaps something like CM SF19 or Cryo LX would be good.

Cryo LX is better than SF19. The SF19 is specifically designed for the Asus G73, so does its job well only when its used with the Asus G73. It shows 10-15C difference under load.

U3 is good because of its adjustable fan position.

Thanks for the suggestions! Still not sure what to get.

How well does the Cooler Master NotePal U3 Notebook Cooler work on your lap?

Havent actually tried it on my lap, but let me tell you that you dont want this thing sitting on you. It weighs quite a lot (the cooler itself doesnt seem that much but the xps 17 definitely), I would suggest using this on a desk at least (especially since coolers work best on solid ground) but if you think you can manage past the weight then I would say it's possible to be on the lap, on a scale of 1 to 10 i would say a 4 on the "portability" (10 being highest), your call.

If you haven't received it yet and ordered the 9cell battery, the laptop is lifted off the surface by the 9cell providing air flow. I don't know if they intended it design-wise but seems like a good thing.

I also ordered the 9 Cell (for the sake of travelling because I have school) but I keep it fridged for the most part. To be honest I dont see much of a difference with the 9 Cell battery. It will lift the laptop of course, but the main vent blows to the left and I tried feeling the vents on the bottom but they dont seem to make much of a difference.

Logically with no fans on the bottom, heat will be moved away by the air circulation in the room, which is hardly noticeable.
Only way to tell is stress the notebook for a decent time, once with the 9-cell and once without the 9-cell (or with the 6-cell).

I have the cooler master one, not bad at all.
Two main issues I guess are the fact that the 9 cell battery means the feet are in the middle of the laptop, so does not touch the rubber ends on the cooler. I have bought one of those cheap dashboard sticky gel pads and put that in the middle so the laptop doesn't slide about.
Also the fans at the bottom, I have had it on my lap and the fans do get blocked like that so I suggest on a memory foam pillow or desk.....
