    Hey,

    First off, The model
Dell m1730 - Out of warranty

    Problem:
Laptop is failing to boot up. The screen does not turn on/make it to BIOS. Tho, the lights come on, USB devices light up...

Things that happend up to this problem:
Very confident it's NOT virus related.
I put my laptop into hibernation for the night, in the morning, the laptop still being in hibernation, I took out my Ipod shuffle first gen. Later in the day, we expirenced a black out.
When I got home, My laptop was no longer in hibernation ( the blackout ) and thats when I noticed the problem. My AC Adapter is behind two surge protectors, so I think ( and hoping ) it's a minor hardware misshap with the Ipod.

Looking for some helpfull help on how to correct this issue ;)

    Thanks

Is the blackout caused by short-circuit or lightning storm ? I don't trust surge protectors..

Try this 1st, unplug your laptop from AC, and remove the battery from the unit.
Unplug your power brick from the wall for a few minutes as well since you mentioned a blackout (to reset it as well). Press and hold the power button on your laptop for 15-20 seconds and release. Reinstall the battery, plug the unit back into AC and try to boot-up again.

Have you tried connecting an external display?

Not a lightning storm, and it happend all around my suburb. These two surge protectors arn't ones you'd by from a $2 shop

    Done. No change.

    Just did. Nothing appeared.

It might be good mensioning that my laptop battery has been dead for about a year.

Could be a mobo issue but its strange that the lights come on and the usb's work. I might be wrong here but I thought usb ports only work after the a computer has gone through its bios checks and is starting to load windows.

Isn't that laptop on the failing/enhanced Nvidia warranty? Could be the GPU... Very easily. BTW if your computer is hibernating it uses no power at all, so a power blackout will do nothing, unless it received a nice surge.
