I don't know any techincal jargon, but basically, it's the part of my XPS 15 with the silver around it, the plastic part on the top that surrounds the keyboard and such. In the top right corner near the speaker and the touch-sensitive buttons, it's partly coming off. It was like that when I got the computer.
I don't want to return the computer or anything, but I'm wondering is this something I could easily fix on my own? How?

You shouldn't have to return it, just get dell to send a tech to replace the part
-
NO call Dell now and ask them to send a service tech or to send you a laptop. It's a new laptop and this needs to be reported right away before they think that it's your fault.
-
Well see, technically I've had this laptop for 13 days. I just didn't open the box until a couple days ago. It sat at my house for 10 days unopened. I didn't really notice the problem until today. Do you think I could still call them?
-
either call or use dell chat. let them know of the issue.

Come on, it's your right as a consumer to receive a new product in perfect condition.
Seriously, I don't see no reason why you shouldn't get a Dell technician to fix this problem. Or even replace a new one for you... -
you should call them regardless of how long it sat unopened in your home. the machine could have been damaged in the factory or during shipping. but the fact remains, it is Dell's duty to make sure that the merchandise arrives at the customer's doorstep in one piece, safely.
this doesn't sound like it could have been damage caused by transport, so i would definitely call dell support and have them send a technician to make the repairs/replacements soon. -
I think your thread has been answered but if you haven't contacted Dell yet then here is a reminder
Contact Dell Nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. -
^^"that" on the above.
You paid good money for your new lappy & trusted it would be received in top condition.
Contact Dell, today..now for a new replacement. No Technician or replacement parts.

OP, make sure its not the protective film which is removed by the customer on receipt. This 'film' covers certain areas of the system and the way you describe it, it sounds like this could be it.
If possible, attach a picture so we can see what you are talking about.
If in fact the system is damaged, then I (like the others), suggest contact support ASAP. Ask for a new replacement - be sure to point this out to the rep and obtain supervisor confirmation. A new system should be ordered and upon delivery, you'll ship yours back.
Laptop came partly damaged
