I'm curious about how you guys have replaced your laptop from dell
from the general consensus it seems everyone opted for the L702x or a 17 inch

but what i'm interested in finding out is has anyone gotten a 15 inch from dell? if so what were your choices, if any?

also do you think there's anyway I can get dell to give me a xps 15z as a replacement for my xps 1647?

    Thanks!

I got a replacement from dell to replace my crappy SXPS 13. At that time, XPS 14z was not out yet and I demanded for a XPS 15. I am not sure if I have other choices but I like XPS 15 looks better than XPS 15z. The reason for my replacement was that they replaced more than 11 parts and I still had problems!! I didn't want to play game with them any more so I ended up solving my case with higher department from dell.

I got my l701x replaced with a l702x. Btw xps 15 is more powerful than the 15z. Unless you like the slimness of the z the 15 is better.

First, I heard of the chrome falling issue... and then Xps 15z's sound is not as good as Xps 15. Also, I just like the way Xps 15 look :)

lol tbh I kinda liked the look of the 15z more and I was willing to part away with the pg up/pg down etc. but then I saw this " XPS 15 has a slightly better 1080p screen because it is B+RGLED therefore resulting in a higher color gamut. It also has better speakers because they are JBL and most importantly, has a subwoofer. For some reason, Dell decide to downgrade the webcam on the 15z to 1.3mp vs 2.0mp on the XPS 15. And finally, there have been some reviews that the 15z could have some heat issues due to its smaller form factor. "

lol I'd rather take those upgrades over slimness factor. Thanks for the responses guys

Also how is the ghosting on the keyboard for xps 15? and is the keyboard any good? or is it the same as xps studio 16

Xps 15's keyboard is kinda too soft compared to SXPS 13. I also read that there is some kind of problem with xps 15z's 1080p screen.

I think it is worth it. Xps 15 is just 1lb heavier than my SXPS 13. I love the sound system of the XPS 15. The 720p display is a downgrade screen from my SXPS 13. (but I can replace it) I missed the capacitive keys. However, Xps 15 is not a fingerprint magnet like SXPS 13 where I needed to clean it every day. At first, I was not used to the keyboard since the space between the keys is wider. As you can see, Dell only replaced my SXPS 13 with a comparable spec. Even though I have have the i3 but it is so much faster than the P series cpu. Overall, I am satisfied.

It all depends on who you get on the phone and how many documented problems you had,Dell works on a case by case basis. And their replacement is same or better,If they dont have a viable similar replacement you will usually go through a few offers untill your satisfied.I am an example of dell terribly handling my issues.I started with an xps 14 r1 and since at the time of my 1st replacement there was no 14s besides inspiron and I paid alot more for the xps14 before it got discontinued, long story short I was told 100 different things including the best I could get was an xps15.And now I have a fully specd top option from 2860 cpu to killer 1103 wifi and wi-hd in a new Alienware M14X! :D I suggest going to dells social media reps on facebook and twitter, they gave me in a week what dell escallation wouldn't do.Except waste my time and then I ultimately got even more then I ever asked anyway.Good luck.

well. my laptop is discontinued now too ~.~ what are my chances on getting an alienware m14x? lol

also how did you get it? did they just keep offering you laptops + you kept declining, or did you say it bluntly

There are guys getting m17s for the 16 series dell, check NBR forum post dell replacements,it changes all the time,I have an m18X now so Im not on the xps forum too much. The replacements from dell depend on what you originally had spec wise and what's comparable, and if you get a good rep makes all the difference,Dell did come through in the end.I give credit where its due, although it was a nightmare,Dell did make it right.I found social media the best course for getting a response. And I was told I couldn't get an alien and there was no higher level.Well Im living proof, there is always someone with authority above whoever tells you there isn't.

That sounds amazing, which twitter/facebook teams are they talking about? I'm going through hell with Dell right now, on my fourth replaced motherboard (they always blame that for some reason) and they always send it back with more problems. A replacement upgrade would be lovely.
