I will be receiving my Studio XPS 1645 tomorrow, and I just wanna know how long do you think the laptop will last for before it needs to be replaced? not because of issues with the hardware. Just the life of the laptop. ie: 2 years? 3 years?

laptop needs TLC. clean the air vent, any dust, replace the thermal paste., and ill last a lifetime. if you're a gamer, u'll likely look into another laptop in 3-5 years. depends on the high demand on graphic.

Honestly, that depends on how well you take care of your lappy. :)

Some people have their lappys for years before they need to replace with another. Depends on the individual & care, and what upgrades are put into it.

If you invest in a warranty, that can also help extend the life of your lappy. But, that also depends on the person - if they want to put money into a warranty for their lappy. I did on mine, and am very happy I did.

^^You may have to DL some drivers, etc (personal preference on what you want). But usually, yes.

Depends on how you use it. My notebooks would last about 3 or 4 years about 10 years ago but within the last 5 years, we have begun to schedule replacing our notebooks every 2 years. We keep finding new and more demanding uses for our notebooks.

If you're a student you should not have to replace your freshman notebook until you start your first post-grad job.

well, normally, laptops would last for more than 5 years depending on usage and technology that would depend on....

i have pentium 2 & pentium mmx laptops that still work and gets used for basic word & excell processing.... but it's on win98

so, in general, i retire or sell my laptops once the battery goes to 75% wear already, or just dies naturally, that's around 2-3 years from my experience...

in my case, i'de rather buy a new laptop than buy a new original batt....

But, your in Canada :( It's to bad they don't allow for evening or Sat. pickup...(or a "convenience" trip back around for you)..but alas this is the real world  : (

Laptops can last a long time if loved. There's a laptop at work with P3 at 499 MHz, 64 MB RAM, and Windows 98. That's at least 12 years old. Just take care of it, clean it, and it will last a long time.

Also it won't come with the newest anything. Maybe newest BIOS, maybe not. Just run Windows Update until you don't have anymore updates.

Wow awesome :D Well the 1645 isnt state of the art but im sure it will handle things smoothly for the next while. luckily i have the 9 cell battery so it should help with the temperature. From what people have been posting.
