Hey guys, so I got my 1640 like almost exactly a year ago. I'm on a 2-year regular warranty. I was starting school last summer so I never got around to deal with this, but I think it's time I call in Dell Support for this.

So there were a few issues out-of-the-box (not wear-and-tear over the past year), which included the right side of my screen, where the black border meets the screen...when I'm off-angle to the screen, I can see that the edge-to-edge panel is not snug against the screen, so there's a quite noticeable LED light leakage/opening off to that side. This is only on the right, and my left side is much more snug w/o leakage. Pushing down on the plastic on the right side somewhat closes it off, upon release, it opens back up again. This seems more like defective construction to me, and I'm thinking about bringing this up to Dell Support.

Another problem is also on the right side. The hinge has always been a little more shifted outward on the right side, and everytime I close the lid, it shifts out even more, exposing the screws or w/e underneath. Again, not an issue on left side.

I can try to find the photos I took last year so I had a record of it, in case they wanna check, but essentially, these seem like defects that I'd like to get resolved before my warranty ends.

My friend also has an XPS 1640 and his screen/hinge does not have any of these issues.

In the event that Dell suggests replacing the screen, do you think I can ask them if they switch colors or resolution as well? I know currently in the U.S. that the 1080p screen is standard now for the XPS 1640 model (mine is currently 720p; they didn't have WLED 1080p last summer). I wonder if the market availability for the 1080p and no 720p screen would allow me to also get a 1080p screen instead? If not for free under warranty, maybe for a bit of an extra fee?

    Thanks.
