Greetings, all...
I have a question regarding the lid close switch on the XPS 1530.
My investigation after tearing apart my comatose 1530 is that the lid switch is an electromagnetic catch, not a physical switch, that opens/closes based on whether the magnet between the palm rest and the lid is engaged.
Right now, my system is stuck asleep, and I suspect this switch has failed (perpetually stuck in the "I'm closed/stay asleep" mode). I am contemplating tearing the system down one more time to simply disable that switch by removing the cable. My hope is that the switch, if disconnected, would simply report "open" to the rest of the system which would, in turn, tell the system the lid was open and for the machine to "wake up."
Does anyone out there know what the specs on that switch are, eg what it reports, because if there's any chance just disconnecting the switch would work, I'm willing to give it a try. All I have now is a doorstop.![]()
Thanks,
David

I replaced my LCD screen yesterday and found a magnet right by the webcam. I thought the last Dell technician who worked on my computer left it there and it was used and his tools to get screws out or something. I took the magnet out and now my computer can't go to sleep anymore.
I don't know where I put the magnet.
I don't know if that helps at all, but its my two cents. The magnetic switch thats messed up on yours is most likely in the palm rest.
