After reinstalling vista, I have a couple remaining problems. If anyone could help, I'd love you for life.

    1. Left headphone jack makes a strange sound when no audio is playing
    2. Right headphone jack doesn't work at all
    3. When I manually put the computer into sleep mode, the screen doesn't turn on when power is turned back on
    4. Keyboard keys don't register from time to time
    5. Computer frequently runs very hot and the fan switches on constantly (I don't have the 8400 GPU, just integrated)
    6. *is there a way to check the stereo microphones. I never use them but I'd like to know they work just in case.

#3 When I manually put the computer into sleep mode, the screen doesn't turn on when power is turned back on

Sounds like a driver issue. I had this problem on my 1520 and changing drivers fixed the problem.

Both of those could be caused by dirt/dust/etc. I suggest a cleaning with a strong vacuum cleaner. Make sure the computer is fully powered down first, of course. Clean the keyboard and all ventillation/cooling ports.

use the latest Dell graphics driver (A10) and upgrade your BIOS if you don't have at least A12....
