I did my registration with the original installation and then re-installed it on the 64 bit install. Do you need to re-install the software on the new 64 bit install or is it all done through the bios. I also called Lojack and asked about the bios setting since by default it is set to inactive or whatever and not active and I was told not to touch it. Does anyone know what is up with that.

You should not need to reinstall any lojack software, its integrated into the BIOS. as soon as you register your account with lojack then you should be fine. remember though, your lojack contract expires (despite contract length) as soon as you report it lost/stolen.

Are you sure it still works even if you wipe the drive?
If so, you MUST enable it in the BIOS, and NOT leave it on inactive. -
Yeah when I called Lojack they told me not to change the bios. Also on Lojacks site it says if the hard drive is removed the service will not work so it seems like it does need to be installed.

Our records also indicate that your laptop is a model that has our Computrace agent in the BIOS of the laptop. Once the BIOS agent is active, you will not need to reinstall LoJack for Laptops even if you do a system restore, hard drive format or a hard drive replacement. The only way to disable this feature would be to replace the entire Motherboard or remove LoJack for Laptops via our website by performing a Remove or Transfer. This will remove LoJack for Laptops and send a signal to turn of the BIOS agent on the computer which it was installed on. -
Yeah that is funny because they told me not to touch the bios and I went back and checked it after I had already installed the software and the bios still showed it as not active. Maybe it takes a couple of restarts or something. I will have to check it again.

I do not think the software install/registration will turn on the BIOS Computrace agent. This need to be done manually. I'm not sure why Lojack said not to change the BIOS. When I talked with them they told me the same as what darkcond0 had posted.

OK I guess I will turn it on then. So none of you guys bothered reinstalling the software after you did a clean install? I wonder if it uses much system resources. I wonder if the bios and the software will work together or if the system will be making calls twice as much. Maybe the person I talked to just didn't know what they were talking about.

I did try to reinstall the software after a fresh OS install, but it complained that the registration number was already registered. I then signed into the Lojack site and tested a call and everything worked with out the software installed. I do not know if you will need to unregister/reregister after you enable the BIOS agent, but once it is working I don't think there is any need to have the software. I think the software is only needed if the computer does not have the BIOS agent.

Yeah I had that same problem. You just go online and log into your account and hit the flag for removal button and then it frees up the registration number again and then you can reinstall it with your original registration number.
