Well hello again everyone. I haven't been on here in quite a while. Sooo Ive had my xps m1530 for well almost two years now. Performance wise the laptop has been great, but I've had quite a few problems. When I first received my 1530, it had horrible backlight bleeding, so my LCD was replaced. After that, keyboard went haywire and that was replaced. About a month ago my GPU (defective 8600m GT) finally went on me so I set up a service call with Dell. All was well until I realized that Dell sent the technician the wrong part! So now I am sitting with an 8600m GS (instead of GT) so I have yet another service call this thursday to get another GT. What a mess! Aside from that, my HDMI port is on the fritz and the last technician messed up the media control buttons by power button. I hear people have gotten their 1530 replaced with a new model? sounds intriguing.....what do you guys think?

    Ok...Hope you've been well! ;)

Ben, you have had several repairs on the 1530 already.

But, have you contacted them to have them have the Techn. repair/fix the HDMI port & the Media control buttons? You should call ASAP and have that addressed. Refer them back to the last repairs and advise they are not working correctly. They will prolly replace your entire keyboard/palmrest/media center/sides, & HDMI port.

And, you could express at that time due to the necessary repairs & the replacement of another "failing" GPU ~ is it worth it for them to put the cost of the $$ repairs in it? And see, what they can do to make you happy? (Since these 2 faults were of the Techn)...(been there/done that) ~ I had a Technician nearly destroy my 1530 at one time to just replace the GPU...*sigh*.

Just say things like you have enjoyed this lappy very much, but it's not being sold anymore & this is going on your 2nd GPU replacement. How many more do you have to go thru? etc. for a laptop not being sold anymore, and your a loyal Dell Consumer.

Being firm & polite helps, using Dell Chat will get you further then a phone convo' will (your in more control). : )

thanks for the warm welcome back! Yeah it has been a little bit of a journey. We'll see what happens here in the next few days. The service call is already set up for the motherboard/GPU (integrated...boo) and I know the tech already has the part. I suspect its too late for them to send out more parts for the other fixes I need. Think I can squeeze a new laptop out of them?

Hey NP! :) You've been gone for a longish time! ;))

You can always try and see if they can overnight the other parts to the Technician before his arrival ~ it may work, may not! : ) See how this replacement gos. Or, like I said. Call them back and see what they say about the additional repairs that are needed. You never know what they may say with the additions needed.

Or, when the Techn. gets there you could show him the additional problems..and he may get on the phone with Dell and say there are these additional problems..what should we do? :)

Well I guess you were not very lucky with your M1530.. Mine works wonders after 2.5 years of gaming on it; just replaced the DVD-RW but it was cheap and I did it by myself.

However you're lucky to get a new 1645! Hope you get it with the ATI 5730 :D

So wait, you had your exchange request put in yesterday, and today you already know what system you're going to get?

Wow. I'm chatting with a rep right now and I don't have any information yet. He said up to 4 weeks.

Yuuup. Right now I know it is going to be a black 1645 (by request) but other than that I won't know for a week or so it sounds like. Id def try to request a 1645 (quad-core/Clarksfield) or a 1647 (dual-core/Arrandale). Tell them you dont want to deal with the 1530's problems any more.
