I've been really impressed by how well this machine has been handling my games, and I'm looking at picking up a couple more, but am not sure if they'll preform good

Right now, I'm playing L4D2, CS:S and NFS Undercover. It lags pretty bad on GTA tho

I just downloaded a BioShock Demo but haven't tried it yet. I'm considering buying BioShock 1 & 2. From YouTube Videos, MW2 should run good, so thats another game..

Anyone play BioShock 1 and 2 on the XPS 16?

    Any other good FPS gmaes?

I played all the way though BioShock 1 and am about 25% through 2 on my 1645, they've both run fine with everything on max at 1080p. They aren't very demanding of the system I don't think.

I haven't tried MW2 so can't comment. If you have a 1645 you might want to get onto support and get a 130w adapter and install the latest bios (A07), that should see the system's performance increase.

Oh and for other FPS games if you haven't tried Borderlands you really should, it's excellent (and also seems to run fine on my machine).

It’s strange that GTA lags on your system, OK You’re not playing ont he 1645 or 1647, but You have a powerfull T9800 CPU, that and Your GPU should handle the game better.

The reason GTA lags on your laptop is not because of your system. It's the way the game was ported over from the XBox 360. It is widely known that it's a horrible port and thousands of people have had problems with the game.

I've read that a lot of people are running COD: MW2 just fine on the XPS 16. You should be good to go.

Good to know about GTA, I thought it was something with my system. Good thing I bought it during the Steam Christmas Sale!

Thats great! My max res is 900p, so it should run perfect on my machine..

Has anyone played Fallout 3 on their XPS 16?

I really wish they'd get Halo 3 on PC

    Halo is a great game!

I'm having second thoughts on Bioshock. Just played the Demo, and it runs perfectly, but its scary as hell.. Might pick it up, but I definatly can't play it without the lights on, cause that game really sucks you in.

for MW2, in order to run 1920x1080 I had to turn off everything and set textures to normal. When I had it higher than that the laptop would burn up and the framerates would start dropping after 20 mins of play. Maybe if I had a better laptop cooler I could run it at higher settings.

Fallout 3 runs fine for me with med-high settings at 720.

As mentioned, GTAIV is notorious for being very hard on the CPU, but after a year and five major patches it's finally playable even on mid/high-end C2Ds, you should be getting a decent performance with your processors, try tweaking the settings a bit.

I play MW2 @ 1920x1080, 4xAA, everything ON except the "sync every frame", Details High.

No problems, its just get a bit laggy when someone throws 1-2 smoke grens.

    A07 & 130W of course :)

I play GTA 4 in medium settings on 720p. Works silky smooth. BTW I still have to get my 130W Adapter due tomorrow so guess I can run it on 90W :D
130W Adapter will definitely give it a boost. Make sure you install the latest 1.0.0.4 patch of GTA.
Other games like NFS Shift, Avatar, Far Cry2 works fine on high settings.

    Hi bipul_fx!

Could You please tell us how games look on non native resolution? (saw You mentioned playing GTA IV on 720p).

    Thanks in advance!

How hot does your laptop get when you run it this way and how long do you run it for? hours minutes? I get up to 80C on the GPU and I think that's when things start to lag in game for me, and that's only about 10-15 mins of play if even. The fan is blowing hot air on the screen so much that the lcd gets discolored. Moving the sight around becomes real choppy. Do you have a laptop cooler or air conditioner blowing on your laptop all the time?

My temps are around 80°C which is absolutely okay. Temps > 95°C are risky i think.
No problem with the colors of the screen. I don't use a cooler, the 9-cell battery is enough.

Room temps should be around 20-25°C.

I find running games in 720P on a 1080P display to be slightly fuzzy..(Fullscreen mode) Its not overtly distracting but it does throw off my experience slightly.

(I don't see this problem on LCD Tv's) only on laptop and PC displays.

I find 720p to play fine on my 1640 but there is a difference between 720 and 1080. I can play in 720 just fine if I had to.

As we all know now, This laptop aint Alienware so we have to balance the graphics settings to play it smoothly. If we really wanted games to run at Max settings and 1080p then we should have got Alienware m15x. The laptop aint that bad but the bottleneck is its ATI MR 4670 1GB GDDR3 Graphics Card. If it had a ATI 5000 series with a better cooling system. It could have been one of the best gaming laptops.
