I have noticed that my screen wobbles a half-inch or so when it is open, as if the hinges are loose. The tension is fine. I have opened up the bottom to check the hinges and they were tight, which leads me to believe that they might be loose inside the screen, which I am unable to get at. Is it normal for the screen to be wobbly or loose? If not, is there a way to tighten it? I don't remember it being this way when I first got it a few months ago.

My 1640 is only 'wobbly' in that if you apply light pressure to the screen, it'll definitely rotate back, BUT the hinge DOES NOT move, so when i release the screen returns to its original planar position.

To add to my original post, I usually only notice the looseness when I carry or move my laptop with the screen open. If the laptop is tilted back, the screen will flop back; and if it's tilted forward, the screen will flop forward. Again, the difference between these two positions is only a half inch or so at the top of the screen. Other than that, the screen won't move unless force is applied, so the tension is good. I have had this issue with my older laptops and was able to fix it because I could remove the bezel to access the screws attaching the hinges to the display.

I'll ask this again... Does anybody else have this issue, or does this sound normal? Also, is there a way to access the screws that attach the hinges to the screen? I couldn't find anything in the service manual.

    Thanks again!

Yea, that's not normal. It should be stable at the hinge at whichever angle it's at. I guess the only 'movable' thing should only be due to the fact that the lid itself with the plastic and plexiglass is flexible/bendable, but it should NOT MOVE AT THE HINGE.

I've gone thru 4 screens already (1 original, 3 replaced refurbished), and all of them are stable at the hinge. It should not shift or turn by itself, even if you turn your laptop forward or backward toward gravity.
