I've searched all over God's silicon green earth for information and no luck. I have the 1640 with the BD-RE at newest firmware, but I can't get the Lost University to load off of the disk with PowerDVD, I was able to pull it up with Total Media Theatre but it won't play the sound from the videos. Any ideas?

What happens with PowerDVD? Tried reinstalling it?

Hmmm...could be a disc issue? Is it a DVD or a BD? If it's a DVD, tried WMP? If it is a BD, tried Media Center? Media Center should integrate PowerDVD, but it's just something to try.

No sound usually means a codec issue...

Thanks for the ideas. I have the Dell technician also working on my screen, so I'll bring it up with them too. In the mean time I tried downloading the newest PowerDvd 9 as the PowerDvd Dx is a version 8 clone, but no luck. I'll have to play around and see what I can get.

So, for followup, the tech came out to replace my screen due to a couple cases of the dropsies, but he bought out the white top for my black laptop. I thought about keeping it. It would be cool to have a Cadillac of XPSes, but I have to wait for a new screen. So, that kinda sucks.

On the lost University thing, I asked him about it and got a real wishy washy response. Apparently, they don't get updates at all from Dell on system issues. He told me to call up Dell Tech Support and go from there. He's never heard of it before, but if he had to guess it might be a Windows 7 issue.

    Darn you LOST!!!

Try a no-cost time-limited but full-featured demo of Slysoft's AndDVDHD. Sometimes the encryption key for a particular movie may not exist in decoder like PowerDVD, so try removing encryption.

With the snowstorm hitting MN tonight, I will have plenty of time to test outt you suggestions more fully. I did a quick repair, but not a full reinstall, and no luck, but I'll scrub her clean and try again.

Well that would technically be illegal under the DMCA and Patriot Act, but I appreciate the thought.

I am just suggesting this as a diagnostic tactic. AnyDVDHD removes encryption on the fly as a disk plays. The software would not do anything permanent to the disk's encryption. Good luck, whatever you decide to do.
