I have exprienced just really low speeds with my Dell-provided Conexant D400external USB modem, you know dell has omitted the internal modem in XPS series.
It doesn't make sense because recently my nephew has bought a really cheaper Inspiron 1525 with built-in Modem & one more USB port, of course he can reach higher connection speeds with it.
It's really funny because USB modem occupies one of my valuable USB ports.
The highest speed that I can reach with my XPS is 40 Kb/s. Any advise to improve it will be appreciated.
Sorry if I have misspellings & grammar errors.

I would assume the reason they left it out is the same reason they left out a floppy drive, nobody uses them anymore. I haven't used a modem in two or three years. I thought I remember and actual speed of 40Kb/s being decent for dial up.

You are right somekevinguy, but I live in a 3rd world country & unfortunately dialup modem is still the most general & common way to connect here.
You know, Inspiron 1525 is a newer model than XPS M1530, but it has built-in modem yet, & of course it has one more USB port than its more expensive big brother. It doesn't make sense. You should agree.
Now, Is there any solution for me to increase my connection speed by XPS USB modem to a ordinary cheap inspiron?

I think it is because the Inspiron is a lower end model and the type of person that would buy one of those is more likely to have dial up than someone buying an XPS in most markets. As far as speed, what were you expecting to get? Like I said I could be wrong but the way I remember it, 40Kb/s was a pretty good speed for dial up and that was in the United States with a high end US Robotics modem with onboard hardware processing. Are you going by the stated connection speed or have you actually tested real d/l speeds? Are you using the same phone line as your nephew?

So what speed is your nephew getting and again are you guys measuring actual speed or are you just going by the stated connection speed? Like I said I had a top of the line US Robotics with full hardware processing and I thought I remember I only used to get about 40ish Kb/s here in the US.
