Has anyone had a GPU problem fixed more that one year out of warranty?

During my 1 year warranty the motherboard and CPU were replaced twice. My warranty ended in 2008 and my computer suffered from a GPU problem in 2009. After arguing with customer service for a while, Dell fixed my computer outside of warranty as a 1 time exception.

This week my computer started having problem again. The screen sometimes displayed random garbled images. I realized that the fan was not spinning at all. After blowing some compressed air in, the fan started working again.

Today by computer is dead. When I turn it on the screen is blank and only the power light is on. When I hold fn + power...the error code is flashing solid solid which means a CPU error.

Support is refusing to fix the problem because its more than a year out of warranty and the problem is not directly related to the graphics card. I think its obvious that heat from the GPU caused the CPU to overheat and break.

Unfortunately for you, I don't think they are under any obligation to repair your laptop for free. They did extend the warranty for 1 more year for GPU problems. But since you are more than one year out of warranty, I think you're out of luck.

I sent out email to a bunch of dell execs...hopefully one of them will help out. I also realized that I called regular tech support. I have a number for XPS support and I think they'll be better.

If you already emailed execs. I wouldn't bother calling anyone anymore...

    Your right.

I got a call back from a "ACE Case Manager" who offered to get me a quote for a warranty extension even thought my warranty is expired. I just got the quote and its $299.

$189.00 Next Business Day In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis
    $10.00 Warranty Support Service
$100.00 Recertification of expired Dell Limited Hardware Warranty

I emailed back the manager and he agreed to remove the $100 recert fee. I'm just going to pay the $199 to fix this.
